MacroBlogInk: mania and the seduction of food
(Monday, 26 March 2007) Written by Caroline V. Ritter

Though I cannot sit for too long right now, I am determined to record these macro-musings while yet in the throes of a mania. It is a side-effect of the medication that causes the physical restlessness--so much so that the state was induced in prisoners as a form of torture.

On a happier note, I have been reading  Breaking the Food Seduction Dr. Neal Barnard, M.D. It is amazing to see how some foods act as drugs in the body. He focuses on four of the toughest to beat: sugar, chocolate, meat, and cheese.

After I finish the book, I want to write more about his findings. It is fascinating, to say the least. I also recently read The China Study by T. Colin Campbell which is an incredibly significant piece of work.

I am on the way down in terms of this mania, I believe. I am on enough medication to keep me at least a bit more under wraps than I otherwise would have been. A few weeks ago I was taking the maximum allowed dose-40 mg.--of the antipsychotic Zyprexa and I still did not sleep at all for three days.  When I am in a normal/depressed state, I can sleep all day on just 2.5 mg. I say this so that I am clear about the seriousness of my psychiatirc condition.

I would not want to give the impression that I have just quit taking psych meds. That would be quite dangerous if done prematurely. I do hope to be completely healed some day. That is why I am writing about this journey to that point of wellness. As Shakespeare said, "assume a virtue though ye have it not." I am affirming my wholeness here and now, by repeating "I AM whole!"

Wholly macro!

MacroBlessings,
