: begin with Macrobiotics?

The best way to start if you can do it, is to completely change your present lifestyle to one of that of macrobiotics. By this I mean eating whole grains and vegetables (including leafy greens) as your staple food intake. Additional foods and practices are based on your condition, constitution, disease, and weaknesses. Also where you live and what you do are important. Once these things are taken into consideration, then an approach for you is determined. It's really hard intitially and never gets much easier, so find a way to motivate yourself to stick with it at least 3 to 6 months to see if it's what you want to do. There will be outside pressure from everyone who doesn't understand what macrobiotics is in an attempt to dissuade you from your goal. This is an integral part of the healing process. The reason you have this disease is because it is giving you an opportunity to learn from it. In this case, what has caused this radical imbalance in your body, both physically and spiritually. Macrobiotics starts out on the physical plane but eventually moves into the spiritual world where the healing process continues. In order to give you an accurate diagnosis, one would have to know your past and present and see your condition, know where you live and what you eat and what you do. Also your age, medical history and family history at least a couple of generations back. Then an eating/practice program would be tailored to what you need to do specifically to begin. From the little information you have given, I would suggest (if you read my other posts here, it would help) stopping dairy, drugs (prescription, illegal, supplements, etc.), alcohol, caffeine, cut down on your liquid intake, table salt, meat, simple sugars, yeasted bread, and chemicals. Start on whole grains, vegetables, and cooking for yourself. Weight loss is common in the beginning of a macrobiotic practice as the body gets rid of stagnations and moves towards the level where it feels is the best for healing. It is not a diet to loose weight and won't work if it is approached in this light. Being overweight is an unhealthy sign. So is being underweight and tightly drawn. The intestines need to be worked on from the start. This is done along with the food and with the ginger compress regimen. Women also do daikon hip baths to cleanse the female organ system and to get rid of built up animal fats. I would suggest reading some macrobiotic literature to become more familiar with a lot of the terminology and philosophy which will sound strange to a beginner. Also find someone in your area that is experienced for guidance. I put great emphasis on the position that macrobiotics is not a symptomatic approach nor will it cure any disease. What it does do is allows your body to heal itself and enables you to clear your thinking moving you further along your spiritual path. Yes, there is always hope. Bill
