Naomi...a big part of the change to a macrobiotic lifestyle is the releasing of toxins as the body works to heal itself. This will last as long as it takes to get rid of all the stuff that has built up over your life, as well as anything new the body doesn't like. It's an ongoing process that will last a lifetime. Normally, it's seen especially during the winter months in the form of colds and flu, which are really forms of discharge. These natural body processes should be let go to run their course and not stopped with shots and pills. An accurate barometer of your health when practicing healing macrobiotics is to watch four things. 1. Vitality, 2. Sleep, 3. Absence of nausea/sickness, and 4. Appetite. If only one of these signs is present, you are OK and going through the healing process. If all four are negative, get help immediately. As with anything else, if you feel you need help from a health care professional, then you should get it. As for your allergies, sinus, and female organ problems, these are all the result of stagnation in the intestines due to eating out of balance causing the inability of the body to absorb and eliminate properly. I recommend, along with the macrobiotic eating suited to your constitution, condition, and your climate/location, the application of a ginger compress/daikon hip bath regimen to facilitate restoration of intestinal function. There is a full explanation of this on Kaare Bursell's website at www.alchemycalpages.com. Macrobiotics is very, very difficult, especially at first. Think of how long it took for the body to become stagnated and what went into the process. The stages of healing are the body going back over the stages of disease to deal with each and every one of them in a natural way. Give yourself enough of a chance to experience some positive changes to further motivate you to continue. It takes a lot of time. Remember, the more difficult something is, the more strengthening. And don't stop studying, self-reflecting, and learning. Chew well, Bill |
