Thinness

A friend of mine is seeing a highly-qualified macrobiotic counselor to correct multiple health problems. The friend (female) is 5'4" and weighs 94# & is coping with terribly discouraging, pointed remarks from her supervisor, husband, family, & friends about being a walking skeleton. Even her chiropractor lectured on the dangers of anorexia.

I realize that the healing diet can create weight loss (I & many others have experienced it firsthand) and that most Americans are prejudiced against thinness, however, can the healing diet be too calorie-restrictive for some? I raise tropical fish & have seen some under-fed fish reach the "point-of-no return" & die even when food became plentiful. However, these fish usually had NO appetite.

My friend's appetite is extremely good (she would like more food quantity), her energy is tops, and some of the health problems are improving, sleep is good. Sounds to me like things are working???????

However, she's very concerned about the rude comments and I want to make sure that I'm helping her as well as I can. (1st counseling was in person, rest have been by phone). When does thinness become a problem? What are some warning signs?

Thanks!

Dottie
