Kaare vs. Michio

Kaare,

You know, there is something I can't figure out. You give Michio credit in your book The End of Medicine, and indeed much of what is in your book is referenced in Michio's books. One could read your book, and think you are a reverant, appreciative kind of guy.....but then in your postings (and chat) you constantly refer to Michio as an elitist, out of touch, not understanding macrobiotics, etc. So, I don't get it. It sounds kind of like having two positions at the same time (in the Brooklyn, where I grew up, they called similar conduct "Back-stabbing"). So, I don't get it. Either you're appreciative, and you give Him credit where credit is due (e.g., he was making sacrifices and devoting his life to teaching macrobiotics when you were a snot-nosed kid), as you were in your book, or you write a retraction to your book, and go "on record" saying all those nice things you say about him in your postings and in chat.

Then, we would all know where you stand on this issue. I was in a coffee shop recently, secretly eating donuts (like Ed Esko), and I overheard one person at the counter say to another, "I don't think Kaare likes or respects Michio Kushi". The person he was addressing looked at him like he was an idiot, and said, "You're an idiot. Of course Kaare likes and respects Michio Kushi. Go read his book The End of Medicine, and you will see it is so". So, after overhearing this conversation, I thought to myself that even the general public does not know how you stand, and I don't think you want to be the cause for people fighting over this, do you?

Maybe you are, deep down, envious of Michio, because his books are printed on better paper than yours, and they sell more than yours does. Maybe you are jealous because Michio is now a CEO of a natural foods company that sells such healthful products as parboiled rice, salad dressing, and other delicious delights (their new motto, which they are considering, I heard is "NO, WE ARE NOT JUNK FOOD IN DISGUISE". I mean, if Michio put his name (or "the emblem") on it, it must be good for you, right? Think of all that good ki and life force energy that is in the par boiled rice. I am sure that Michio's company uses the BEST par boiled rice (yes, maybe even better than Uncle Ben's Rice) over almost any other factory. And I swear his salad dressing is BETTER than Seven Seas brand.

Anyway, my point is that you should look deep in your soul, and find the TRUE reason for your discontent, and then be man enough and honest enough and let us all know what that reason is. Also, you should not say one thing in your book about a person, and then say the opposite to everyone in person....it looks bad, and you are a better person than this. Next thing you know, you'll be writing about the benefits of eating whole brown rice, and selling rice polishers on the side (an attempt at analogy example of inconsistency via example).
