In the almost quarter-century that I've been involved with macrobiotics, I've noticed alot of macrobiotic people (teachers, students, and adherents alike) smoking cigarettes. I'm not pure. I smoked at least half of those years, myself! Many people consider that the macrobiotic diet is about internal cleaning and can't imagine clogging themselves up with tar and nicotine. Another thing that I've noticed is that many of the teacher/counselors who are constantly counseling people with major diseases and other problems have often eaten the same strict diet that they recommend to their clients and also have been doing alot of smoking. Are these smokers missing something in their diet that causes them to crave tar and nicotine or are they just being too strict with their diet(s)?
