Roy, what a nice explanation. Thank you. Many of us
who grew up on sugared breakfast "cereals" find it difficult to eat saltier
foods in the morning. It takes practice. And when we search for "scientific"
proofs, we are only fed the same pap from the nutritional fields (read as "big
business") as we have been eating throughout childhood. In a way, it is natural
that many of us desire fruit for breakfast, as it sentimentaly reminds us of our
childhood when we seemed to have no cares or responsibilities. Also friut can be
attractive because many of us born post world war two have been eating untold
amounts of meat which naturally draws us to fruits (or drugs) as a balance
toward happiness. I find it amusing that pot is so sought out in american
culture, yet hardly used at all by grain eating peoples. The mind altering drugs
of the sixties were misnamed. They should have been called EMOTION altering
drugs. Americans seek these because they eat so much meat they become dry and
emotionally infertile. While this may be a long way from the fruit discussion, I
believe they are naturally related. We are desperately trying to become human.
Oftentimes I think that happiness is all we are really seeking. As you point out
so well, whole grains are the most balanced food for human beings and so afford
us the shortest route to our goal. Plus, they cause us to smile a lot. And you
don't get blurry-eyed either.
