: Thank you.
: : I am currently taking cooking
lessons from the cook who helped Aveline Kuchi to heal her cancer. According to
my teacher, Aveline was eating a very yang diet (even for a Japanese person)
with a lot of salt, tempura, strong miso, etc. This contributed to her uterine
cancer. She began to eat a more yin style diet, with a dish called Nabe every
evening. This is mostly vegies with a lot less grain. She was able to overcome
her cancer. I am writing this because there is a real danger of macro people
getting too Yang, especially following a Japanese syle diet. Too much salt leads
to repression of feelings, conformity, intellectualism, and a lack of
curiousity. Americans are not Japanese--we value individuality, women's rights,
etc. These are not the values of Japan, and a Japanese style diet is not right
for most Americans. I know from experience. Let's learn from Avaeline's
experience and lighten up. I wish the community would talk openly about
Avaeline's experience--it could teach us all a lot. Guess we are still too yang
to be open about this.
I have intentionally avoided Aveline's personal battle with cancer mainly
because I have no solid facts about it. I have heard many conflicting stories,
including treatment in the hospital. As the utereus is a yin organ (strong but
highly elastic) I would think that good quality yin would benefit its function,
as well as good quality yang. Your cooking teacher, like all people, have the
right to their opinions and theories, but what we really know about Aveline's
cancer is mostly conjecture. Most uterine cancers are not caused by yang factors
but those which are predominately yin -- like excess fat, chemicals, radioactive
fallout (as in A-bomb's dropped on Nagasaki in WW II), highly acidic foods, STD,
and dairy. An alkaline environment inside and surrounding the utereus would in
fact inhibit tumor growth. I do agree that more low fat cooking methods,
seasonal salads, and pressed salads should be eaten by macrobiotics, and that
less salt for most people would also be beneficial. I think that when both
Aveline and Michio are ready to discuss their personal problems (including
daughter Lily's death) then that will be the time when the facts become
revealed. Both of the Kushi's are capable writers and have a quite a bit of
knowledge on cancer -- not all are caused by food factors -- If we look at all
the fish in the ocean that eat what naturally comes to their environment we
would think that they should all be healthy, but the reverse is true instead --
both malignant and benign tumors have been found in nearly all species of fish
(except shark). Let's talk about our own problems, up font and on-line, not the
problems of others, without their permission, behind their backs -- this is very
unprofessional, and I will not contribute any more on this subject. In peace,
Roy
