Thanks Ann for your explanation. It is a good idea to discuss these things. Salt is a strong chemical. Years ago, it was kind of assumed that yin was "evil" and yang was "good". Therefore many macros ate rice with lots of soy sauce. Of course it was a misunderstanding of macrobiotics to do this. We put an "American spin" on an old teaching: good (salt) versus evil(sugar). While it is true that sugar will kill us more quickly than salt, both extremes keep us from happiness. Too much yang is slavery, too much yin is death. Which do we choose? I guess the idea behind erring toward the more yang side of diet is that although we enslave ourselves, we can quietly plan our escape to the middle, but if we err too much on the yin side of diet we become weak and don't have the strength to continue without others' help. I hope to hear more on this subject.
