Re: Ghosts

Bruce, I understand your wariness of Christian dogma but the guy _is_ entitled to his beliefs, and since that's what I asked about, that's what I got.

I am curious if all Christians are supposed to have this belief, or if some do believe in spirits.

Re: Ghosts

MJS,

I'm wary of beliefs that are promoted as the truth, that everyone must believe.

If someone wants to promote their belief without the scrutiny or the challenge, then one can put up a non-interactive webpage or site to promote those beliefs, but this, dear girl, is a forum, where questions are raised, all the time.

bckiceman said "For the record..." which I belief is a strong statement, spoken like an authority, and then s/he follows it up with a quote from a book, that represents a belief system.

Instead of sharing with us this person's experience of the supernatural world we get the dogma of others.

Anyone here, besides Ishi, experience apparitions or ghosts?

Let's not wait till Halloween or around the campfire to tell the scary ghost story.

Thank you, very much.

Bruce Paine

ghosts

No, I agree with you completely Bruce. I just wanted to say that I find it interesting that his interpretation of the Bible leads him not to believe in ghosts, and that at least one person would accept this, no problem, as an element of the diversity of these forums. Hey, question away if you like, please, it keeps things lively.

Re: Ghosts?

I understand what you're saying (and by far, it's good advice). In my experience though, there is a fine line between being macrobiotic and eating whatever looks good today.

If you were commenting regarding my "I had to decide if I wanted to be macrobiotic or not", I was referring to a time when I went completely off the diet.

Your body will let you know. And a healthy body is remarkably resilient, this is what transmutation is all about. Cook when you can and want to, improvise the rest of the time. You are probably healthier than 95% of the population. Have faith & most important, have fun, that's my motto.

Re: Ghosts

bckiceman,

You know, that quote you cited from the Bible doesn't actually mean there are no ghosts - in fact, if interpreted a different way, it's saying there ARE in fact ghosts.

Consider it: "While the living are conscious of their spiritual needs, the dead are conscious of nothing."

So ghosts can reside on this plane of existance and not realize they're dead at all. Or they can reside here and are not aware of "their spiritual needs." It does not mean ghosts are non-existant.

And why would every encounter with a ghost be a "demon" encounter? Not always do they harm us, nor have malicious intentions. That's what you define as demon, or isn't it?

If you have had an experience with a ghost, it is most likely a demon.

Re: Ghosts?

MJS,

What I'm interested in is verifiable phenomena.

People telling ghost stories is entertaining but not much else.

Anyone have a verifiable (not just imagined) story about ghosts or other spiritual phenomena?

Thank you, very much.

Re: Ghosts?

Bruce,
How exactly will you verify something in a casual discussion forum on the Internet? How does one verify a ghost story anyway? I'd say the nature of the medium and the nature of the topic make verification pretty difficult.

I started the thread with a light heart; I laid out my reasons; I was curious if there was any "official" or general macro perspective on the supernatural. Since no one was answering, really...I offered these stories in the same light hearted spirit. I'm sure if you want to look up parapsychology you could find a whole lot of what you are looking for (scientific studies, etcetera).

There does seem to be some consensus and belief in ESP in macrobiotics. Does this belief tend to go along with a belief in ghosts as well? Does one support the other? Maybe you have an opinion. What about Jung and his coincidences (Syncronicities)? Jung was preoccupied with dreams and symbolism but macrobiotics would dismiss most dreams as imbalanced states. With the exception of "true" dreams, that is. But I digress. Perhaps we ought to have a new thread, for supernatural in general, or psychic phenomena?

Re: Ghosts?

Bruce,
That is a great movie -- Loved the twist. My favorite ghost movie remains The Haunting, the 1963 version with Julie Harris in the lead role. Still makes me jump and I've seen it a half a dozen times.I wonder to what extent these movies influence our beliefs in the supernatural.

Happy Saint Patrick's day!

Re: Ghosts?

Good morning,

I wouldn't mind deleting this thread, if other participants wouldn't object.
I don't think we really have gotten anywhere with it. Maybe we could have another supernatural thread in the future, but this one is going nowhere and I come across poorly.

OK by you? If not, I'll leave it up.

Talking Re: Ghosts?

MJS, I just did an update to the forum software last night, when I did it, a couple posts were shown to be flagged for some reason, I am sorry if in the upgrade process these got deleted somehow, there were just a few and they were related to the ghost thread.

Sorry,

Gary

Re: Ghosts?

I believe in ghosts. There are too many stories on ebay alone for me not too. I have ehard a ton of stories while living in Lodnon form peopel who worked near the cemetary at High gate too. Yes, I must sound incredibly childish, but in an odd way my faith in ghosts makes me more spiritually inclined. No pun intended. But I think they demonstate that there is more than simply life or death, and this conviction makes me believe that there must be more to the universe, at times when I ahve no other reason to believe.

Re: Ghosts?

thank you bruce for your last reply. yes, i have experienced a "ghost" in my home. a loved one was murdered (god bless her) and she lingers in our home from time time. she is not a "demon" b/c she has not harmed us. she just does little things to let us know she is there. sometimes it is scary, but most of the time it's just things like switching stuff in the house around (and no one has touched it), rearranging the x-mas tree (she does this every year at x-mast time), and flicking lights. simple stuff. it is not a figment of my imagination or my family. but then again, you have to have it happen to you to truly believe.

peace.
jeannette
