Go to the local health food shops and ask the manager there if he/she knows of any macrobiotic people that shop there and leave your number for them to call you. Try to enroll in a macrobiotic cooking class. The people in charge of the health food shops always know who the macrobiotics are. Maybe they have a bulletin board where you can find a message or leave a message.
In the 60's there was a communal type macrobiotic restaurant in NYC called The Paradox on 1st and 7th st in the village (also The Caldron one block over). A number of single macro people used to eat there alone and strike up conversations with each other and become friends and attend lectures and health seminars together. There are a number of macro and vegetarian restaurants in NY. Maybe go with a friend. There are macrobiotic travel guides and a number of names and addresses with phone numbers are included there. Make a few calls and ask those listed people in your region if they can show you the ropes or make suggestions for you. There are summer macro camps in the US and in Europe. You can sometimes meet many friends there and share ideas. There are some macrobiotic communities that I heard of; one I think is in Alaska, but I don't have the details. There are also macrobiotic food producers and growers who you can possibly work for and meet people there. I think there are a lot of opportunities to find what you are looking for. Maybe someone at the other macro forums (this is the health forum) can better answer your questions. In peace, Roy |

macro travel
hi all,
my girlfriend and i will be road-tripping from florida to california during thanksgiving weekend. i was wondering if anybody has recommendations for meals (restaurants) along the way that may cater to a macro lifestyle. it will be a fairly direct route through alabama, mississippi, louisiana, texas, new mexico and arizona. so far i have found this place in austin, texas: http://www.casadeluz.org/dininghours.htm it has been diffficult since there isn't a complete resource for this. i wish a site like this or the kushi institute's would enlist in a gathering of information worldwide from the community and then compile it for everyone to enjoy. there was once a macro-directory in book form years ago, but the internet is so accessible with data like this. i would even pay for a per-use charge to have access to such valuable information. we plan to go abroad in the future and anticipate a similar dillemma. thanks for any help. it is appreciated immensely. regards, lance |

Re: macro travel
Hi Lance,
The project of building the directory had been started, www.macrobioticdirectory.com but I decided to reformat the site and had not gotten back to completing the work. Would other forum members be interested in contributing to the directory? If so this may be the motivation necessary to get things back in a working order sooner rather than later so people can begin adding listings. I had envsioned having a contest to see who could add the most listings, prizes would be cookbooks. Let me know. By the way, are you the Lance that has worked in past summers at the KI Summer Conference in the audio/video dept. If so, my father Arnie Miller says hi! Gary |

Re: macro travel
thanks for the reply gary.
your directory seems to be the most accessible and the easiest to find information that i'm looking for. (i found Casa de Luz there). i'm surely interested in participating with contributing information to make it more complete (and anything else i can provide to help out). just tell me how you would like the information i haven't been to the KI summer conference but find it interesting that a person with a similar name would be in the audio/video dept there. i have been working in the film/television industry doing audio here in los angeles since 1990! i must have an alter ego on the east coast spreading good karma. --lance |
