    Carbonated water

In your opinion why is carbonated water not recommended in general macrobiotic practise?

Is there an energetic component to this recommendation?

what is the yin and yang perspective?

    any chemical/nutritional consideration......

    Re: Carbonated water

That is what I meant - naturally carbonated spring water that is sourced from natural springs and is not altered in ay way.
Of course it is differnt! Well there is the energetic component of it being carbonated under the ground and the mineral content. well that is my feeling. What do you perceive?

    Re: Spring Water

In my further experiments on this topic...

    I was told.....

Carbon Dioxide gas is the agent that makes the water fizzy or carbonated. This gas is the one that the body is eliminating 18,000 times each day when we exhale.

that is true - in balanced health the body naturally eliminates EXCESSIVE CO2, but further enquiry revealed....
There needs to be a certain concentration of Co2 in the blood for any o2 (oxygen) to be released. This has been an amazing discovery by Russian people teaching the buteyko breathing. Professor Buteyko's ideas are almost pure mb - in terms of lifestyle, diet, salt etc.
This principal which I think was also discovered in Russia is the Verigo-Bohr effect. It is fascinating. It is all about red blood cells. Very mb!
Breathing Free by Theresa Hale (inhale or exhale?! ;-) is a great book on it. I saw it at amazon

I was told that carbonisation could be acidifying to the blood. Which I believe to be a possibility and since acidic blood is one of the easiest ways to compromise our health and weaken us, I perceive it to be wise to be cautious. I am not buying shares in a mineral spring any time soon but think it may be a good topic to look at more closely...

    my experiment....

I thought so too and then I got some litmus ph paper and tested different water. Not only was the carbonated spring water much more alkaline than the normal spring water it actually got more alkaline the longer it was left where the other spring water did not

reading the labell of one bottle I saw that it was very high in minerals - esp calcium, magnesium and silica - elements I believe could be alkalizing. however how they are absorbed and utilised in body chemisty is another matter and one I am not well versed in - yet!

    I was asked
Is there really such a thing as "naturally carbonated spring water"? Can you give some examples?

the bottle natural spring waters are all naturally carbonated. They come out of the ground bubbling. They just discovered another spring here in Australia.
If you look at the mineral levels they are all very high in naturally occuring minerals.
I would not make them my staple beverage by a long shot but it is a curious phenomenon. I will keep you posted of any developments I find out.

    What do you perceive?

    Re: Carbonated water

This is such a fantastic topic because it is a wee bit confusing for me as well so thank you Ilanit for the vital info you shared on "naturally carbonated spring water".
I've recently read that carbonated waters and drinks can diminish bone mass and can add to gastrointestional problems.
But as you said, what of naturally occuring springs where the water bubbles up from the source mineral enriched...? That sounds pretty impressive, and healthy if nature intended it, so it should be beneficial ... (?)
I guess like everything else, perhaps it is best consumed in moderation, perhaps just have some naturally carbonated spring water as a treat if you are out and about and want that fizzy little feeling, but drink still mineral or spring as part of your daily water intake.
    What do you think?
