    swollen lymph

hi, my friend has had a very hard time eating, drinking, swallowing and been in a big pain last few days.not just throat but now the pain spread to ear and head.
then found out that theres seems to be a node-like thing under ear along the neck, looks like a swollen lymph node.
went to see a doctor, but all she gave him was antibiotics, and told him to come back in 4 days if dont get any better.
any idea what it is? also any suggestions to alliveate the pain so he can eat and drink?

    Hi Jin,

Since no one who frequents this discussion is a professional macrobiotic counselor, I recommend that your friend finds one and gets counseling from her or him: Some Macrobiotic Practitioners.

Macrobiotic counseling is not cheap and therefore if you don't have much money then you probably don't want to pay the counselor to teach you macrobiotics before s/he give you recommendations, remedies, and a dietary plan!

The cheapest way to learn macrobiotics is to read a number of books and one or more of them should be on the topic of macrobiotics or macrobiotic healing and a few of the others should be macrobiotic cookbooks!

Fortunately, for our convenience we have a sponsor that has an excellent selection of books for us to purchase including:

    Macrobiotics and/or macrobiotic healing:

    Comments.

The easier you make it for a macrobiotic counselor to help you, then it makes sense that s/he will probably charge you less!

If you can't afford a counselor and want online help, then, again, read some basic macrobiotic healing and macrobiotic cookbooks and then tell us everything you would tell a counselor!

How can you expect anyone to help you for free if they have to do all the heavy lifting?

Either path you choose, good luck and health to you.

    Thank you, very much.

    Re: swollen lymph

    Hi,

I've also had this same problem since following a macrobiotic diet. Lymph nodes will become inflammed sometimes when your body is unable to flush toxins or if there is some sort of infection nearby in the body. Previously, I got a swollen one on my upper arm along with a skin rash nearby, but it went away. Presently, I have a badly-inflamed node or salivary gland (not 100% sure which) on my upper jaw just in front of my left earlobe, and it's making it painful to chew at this point.

I'm assuming that sometimes the body is just trying to flush out stuff that it has spent years accumulating, because generally, they go away on their own after a while. But I'm no doctor, and it never hurts to get an opinion from one even if you don't want to take the medicines they recommend (I would avoid antibiotics unless it was a really dire case, personally). I am actually planning on getting my current problem looked at pretty soon, because there's a chance based on what I've read on the internet that it could be a malignant tumor, and this one has persisted longer than the other (at least a couple weeks now).

I also had lymph nodes swell in the past when I had staph infection in surrounding areas. Are there any sort of sores on the skin or any other noticeable problem besides the swollen node? They are likely related.

The body may have sensitivities to all sorts of different foods - it is possible in some people for something as commonplace as wheat or soy to trigger such a reaction, for example. Your friend may consider seeing an allergist and having a blood test done to figure out what they might be allergic to - otherwise one has to try eliminating things from their diet until they figure it out on their own. Note that the blood tests are not always 100%, but it should give some insights.

    Best of luck!

    Re: swollen lymph

If the coughing indicates lung problems, I was told that lotus is good for all lung conditions http://www.simply-natural.biz/Dried-Lotus-Root.php. There is also a lotus tea http://www.simply-natural.biz/Lotus-Root-Tea.php If you're already on that page you might see the sweet rice lotus root candy - now that's one I haven't tried and look forward to getting.

Also almost all I read, greens are always highly recommended - even three times a day - for so many conditions.

    Re: swollen lymph

    Again,

Since no macrobiotic counselor is responding here, I recommend that you get a consultation with someone who will get the most complete picture of your friend's condition and will see all that is going on so that remedies for all current and possible reactions to different remedy's will be taken into account!

Instead of grasping at straws and giving incomplete advice, let us, who have not received complete macrobiotic training or gotten complete macrobiotic life experience, send persons who are suffering from health problems beyond our complete understanding to people who do have that understanding such as some of the Macrobiotic Counseling Professionals, that one can find, here.

Jin, if you wish to interact with macrobiotic counselors in a discussion group, might I suggest that you join either Modern-Day Macrobiotics and present your friend's problem to Simon G. Brown (and also get a copy of his book of the same name , so he does not have to do all the heavy lifting when giving you advice or remedies) or join macrosy7 and interact with Rosanna Martella, another macrobiotic counselor, but just remember that if your friend's help requires a complete consultation, that these counselors might request that you contact them directly for their help!

May your friend get the complete help that he needs to complete his journey to health, happiness, and well being!

    Thank you, very much.
