A wee bit of confusion over 10 day rice diet
Hello everybody! I just started my Macrobiotic 10 day rice diet (I hope! been 5 days so far!) and I was wondering if I am doing this correctly???
Am I just suppose to eat brown rice for 10 days straight - or can I sneak some veggies/tofu in there? Please keep in mind that I have never attended a Macro cooking class or spoken to anyone else who is Macro, I am just getting my info from the 3 books I purchased. Okay so here is the big confusion part - the 10 day rice diet... what I have is a bit vague, just people talking about their experiences on it, but not necessarily a "guide" if you will to what you eat 3 times a day for 10 days, (I am assuming it is not just brown rice and nothing else, but I may be wrong??? I have no idea?). This is just an example of some of what I have been eating, so please any help, advice, info, guidance, mentoring, is most appreciated!!! Breakfast: organic oatmeal w/ 1/2 teaspoon maple syrup miso soup w/ aprox 6 small cubes (1/4" inch) of tofu green tea Lunch: Brown rice Veggies (carrots, snap peas/string beans, broccoli, mushrooms, onion/garlic) either steamed, stir fry (in sunflower oil), or a fresh salad (no toms or peps). a little tofu and shoyu thrown in Snack: organic crunchy oat cereal (1/4 cup) dry -or- a banana, apple, or peach with 2 tablespoons soya yogurt green tea Dinner: Quinoa mixed with steamed or lightly boiled veggies, corn, carrots, etc. over watercress salad and cucumbers with 1/2 tsp olive oil. Baked Summer squash with miso/ginger dressing. After 8:PM: Decaf Green tea Am I doing this right? Or am I suppose to be eating just the grains/brown rice for the full 10 days? If so, can I eat a variety of grains or just brown rice? Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this! |

Re: A wee bit of confusion over 10 day rice diet
Just wanted to let all know that a new book has come out regarding the #7 / Brown Rice Diet.
For those who plan to use macrobiotic principles with a certain consistency in their lives, this book clearly defines a #7 diet as an elimination diet to be used only for a specific period of time and for the purpose of removing excesses and toxins from the body. Historically, this is most important, because mistakes in application have been made in North America at times when the #7 diet was followed either as an elimination diet for exaggerated periods of time or as a health maintenance diet, which it is not. You can read full details and purchase the book here, http://www.simply-natural.biz/7diet.php

Re: A wee bit of confusion over 10 day rice diet
Gary,
That book looks excellent. Next time I have someone visiting the States, it's on the agenda. A tiny tiny issue. It suggests: "Mme. Rivière's suggestions to read inspiring texts such as Zen Macrobiotics while chewing each mouthful of food..." Here I've been working so hard on keeping away from reading while I eat so that I can concentrate more on the eating/chewing - and it's difficult, because that used to be THE time for me to read. Any thoughts?? Klara |
