Hi there,
Wondering if there is a particular dietary deficiency that is indicated by having dark circles under the eyes. Mine aren't too severe, but as I'm eating a macro diet (not totally strict and still learning so probably not completely balanced either) I am wondering if there is anything in particular I can do to help these go away. I am sleeping usually seven hours a night, unbroken sleep, and am not tired during the day at all. Hope someone has a few ideas about this. Thankyou, Ciara |

Re: dark circles under eyes
Hi Ciara,
Continued success on your path to macrobiotics. I don't have a mb answer, only experience with my daughter who had dark circles. It turned out she was allergic to carpeting (don't know if it was the dust, or the carpet itself) but when we moved and had floors without carpets it went away. If your dark circles are diet related, I would highly advise finding a mb counselor in your area to fine tune your diet to your condition. Klara |

Re: dark circles under eyes
There are various reasons you could have dark circles like exposure to sunlight, or lack of unbalanced diet.Allergies, asthma, etc causes eyes to itch and can contribute to darker circles under the eyes because of rubbing or scratching the skin which can darken the skin. Put chilled cucumber slices for 15 minutes on your eyes, it has a relaxing effect.

Re: dark circles under eyes
Thanks for all your responses. I don't think it is allergies or drinking milk (I'm totally vegan), so I guess I'll just keep trying to balance my diet the best I can and if they don't get any better it doesn't matter that much.
Thanks anyway guys. Ciara |

Re: dark circles under eyes
Hi Ciara,
Just curious. You mentioned you were a vegan and in the same breath seemed to mention drinking milk. Do you consider milk a non- vegetarian food or did I misunderstand? I came across some discussions on your problem. Maybe you can check them out . forum post 1 . In this post they have talked of how to conceal with makeup if nothing else works . forum post 2 Last edited by glow4ever; 07-15-2005 at 03:14 AM. |

Re: dark circles under eyes
Hi,
Glow4ever: I was referring to 'Unregistered's post which stated that he or she was told to stop drinking milk to get rid of dark under eye circles. As Chris suggested, I was saying that drinking milk couldn't be a cause for my dark under eye circles as I am vegan and don't consume any dairy. Thanks for your links to those other posts, I'll have a look. Peace, Ciara |

Re: dark circles under eyes
I'm not a professional tcm practicioner, but I have seen dark circles relating to kidney imbalance(weakness) in much chinese medicine literature. Kidney weakness is common for anyone raised a modern diet. Stay away from the yin and don't drink too much water(by not eating too much salt). Maybe see a macrobiotic acupuncturist, since I have heard chinese medicine views yin&yang the opposite from the japanese yin&yang.

Re: dark circles under eyes
Thanks Soybot,
that is quite helpful. I really should just see a macro counsellor but can't seem to find one In Sydney. Australia is so devoid of macro resources!! whinge whinge. Anyway, I'll definitely try to reduce my yin intake - I eat far too much fresh fruit, I just can't seem to stay away from the stuff. Thanks again for your input. Ciara |

Re: dark circles under eyes
Everybody speaks from their own experience...
Being a night owl may do it. That certainly is in my case. Whenever I stay up late or eat or drink later than usual I get dark circles. Going to bed early and getting enough sleep is key to glowing beauty and essential part of macro lifestile. Best, Dina |

Re: dark circles under eyes
Hello - I don't know if this helps but I was taught that dark circles are due to inflamation and the skin puffs up due to a number of things, dehydration/lack of liquids, lack of sleep, and food allergies. Daily light movements of gentle massage under the eye area is suppose to be beneficial in releasing trapped fluids, as well as warm and cold compresses of green tea.

Re: dark circles under eyes
I have had a dark circle under my right eye since I was 17. (I am 30 now)
I have been looking for a fix for quite some time. Spoke to a MB councellor recently and he indicated it to be a kidney thing. I also have other symptoms like back ache in the kidney region, anxiety etc and all point to the kidney region. Also, there's information about dark circles/eye bags in the Cancer prevention Diet by Michio Kushi (In the kidney cancer section). Another interesting book that pointed me in this direction was the book 'Your face never lies' (its about facial/body reading for diagnosis) I have been on the MB diet for only a month so far.. The dark circle hasnt disappeared yet.. just keeping my fingers crossed
