Unhappy rare skin tumor

Hello Everyone!

My name is Melissa, I'm 21 years old. I am so happy that I found this website. It is very comforting being able to interact with other people doing Macrobiotics. I have been doing Macrobiotics for exactly 25 days...and boy has it been an emotional rollercoaster. About Nine months ago I had a stubborn bump located on my left cheek. My dermatologist injected it with cortisone thinking it was a pimple. After two months the bump didn't go away, so she injected it again. 2 months later I went back in with nothing changed except for the fact that it was larger and harder. They told it was probably a cyst , so they tried to drain it, but nothing but blood came out. By this point a huge, hard mass started to develop underneath the bump. They then sent me to a plastic surgeon to have it look at and removed surgically. went I went in they weren't sure what it was, they thought it was a ruptured cyst. So they decided to take a biopsy. When the results came back they didn't have much information to give me. They didn't take in enough skin from my lesion to know what it was exactly. They wanted to do another biopsy but I refused. I didn't want anymore manipulation being done to it. AFter that I decided to go to a chinese herbalist and acupuncturist for 4 months to see if maybe they could help. After 4 months I noticed no change . During that time my doctor kept calling me very concerned, and pushed for me to do a second biopsy. I still refused the biopsy but I decided to go in for a check up anyway. The hard mass underneath hadn't grown since I saw her last but the area on top of it looked like it was spreading. She told SHe thought it was a tumor and expressed her concerns with me again. I didn't believe her, how could it be a tumor? ... It went from being a pimple to a cyst, now to being a tumor. This was all very new and overwhelming for me. I decided to get a second opinion. I went to a different dermatologist and he told it was most likely a tumor as well. At this point I was terrified... I didn't know what to do. I decided to go to the bookstore and look up alternative medicine. That is I stumbled upon The Cancer Prevention Diet by Michio Kuchi. After reading I couldn't believe how much sense it all made and it also gave me some hope of healing my own condition. It took awhile, but I finally found a Macrobiotics counselor near me. When I went in to get diagnosed she told me she didn't see any cancer but a lot of other problems such as acidic blood, poor circulation and problems with some of my organs. she did tell me that my condition could change with the right nutrition and patience. So I've been doing Macrobiotics ever since. Yesterday my surgeon called me again and instead of avoiding her I talked to her about my tumor. She told me what kind of tumor she thought it was. She told me it is this rare tumor called Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberance. She told me it was a slow growing tumor that keeps growing and growing and even when taken out still has a high rate of coming back. She again insisted that I get another biopsy but I told I had to think about it. After I spoke with her I looked it up online and it seemed to match up with what I have. I am absoltuley terrified, anything that is "rare" I feel is untreatable. Can something like this be cured with diet? I feel like I have reached a screeching halt with everything I've been doing. I'm scared that this will keep growing and they will have to remove my whole cheek. I don't believe in surgery, but is there a point where there is no choice anymore. I also don't feel I've given Macrobiotics much of a chance, it's only been 25 days. I'm just so nervous all the time now. evrytime I feel activity in my tumor I'm scared it's growing. On top of everything, I noticed have lower Sanpaku. I read that when you have that, your judgment isn't good or you're close to danger. Does that mean I'm close to danger if I have surgery or if I don't? I'm just confused right now. If anyone has any insight or thoughts I would love to hear it.

Thanks,
Melissa

Re: rare skin tumor

I have the same skin tumor and have recently discovered macrobiotics. I had the tumor in my arm pit and had it surgically removed, even though I too do not believe in surgery. I'm slow moving towards the macrobiotic ways and hope that my tumor does not return.

Best of Luck!!!

Re: rare skin tumor

Thank you for your reply..it's means a lot. I was wondering if you would have still went along with the surgery if you had known about Macrobiotis prior. Also, I wanted to know how big was your tumor when you had it removed and how fast was it growing?

Thanks,
Melissa

Re: rare skin tumor

Melissa,

I not sure if I would have got it removed if I had known about macrobiotics earlier.

My tumor was about 15mm x 15mm, but the doctor thought it was cyst and didn't remove much of the tissure around the tumor. I'm constantly monitoring the area for further lumps. With in the next few month I'm hoping to be in full macrobiotic mode for ever.

I have been doing alot of reading about tumours and cancer in general after my mother and cousin were treated for cancer.

I do believe that cancer is not like they keep telling us. I think cancer is related to the way we metabolise (being a metaboilc disease and all). So what I'm trying to say is that we are what we eat and with good diet and exercise we can repair ourselves.

You will be OK if you want to be. Don't be scared.

Best Regards,

Niko.
