soy headaches
I often get headaches and mental confusion from soy and other legumes. Is this an imbalance that will work itself out over time? I also have mild reactions to corn and wheat. I am fine when I stick to my staples of brown rice, millet, and veggies. I am a little worried about protein intake, though.

macroPsychotic,
How's the titanium cookware experiment, coming? Though the stainless steel and cast iron pots are heavier, they'll make you stronger and more grounded if you take them with you on extended camping trips! lol Are you eating the hearty beans (aduki, black soy, chickpea/garbanzo, and lentils) as described in The Self-Healing Cookbook: A Macrobiotic Primer for Healing Body, Mind and Moods With Whole Natural Foods by Kristina Turner http://www.simply-natural.biz/Self-Healing-Cookbook.php ? Don't forget to skim the foam off of the black soy and the chickpea/garbanzo beans, and the latest word from macro central is to use small amounts of sea vegetables (postage stamp sized) with our beans, nishime vegetables, and miso soup. I'm thinking that you could be suffering from an allergic reaction to the wheat and corn products. What it says in the book The Macrobiotic Path to Total Health: A Complete Guide to Preventing and Relieving More Than 200 Chronic Conditions and Disorders Naturally by Michio Kushi and Alex Jack http://store.cybermacro.com/Path-To-Health.php is that various foods can trigger allergic reactions and provide a pleforia of various negative reactions. Did you know that "about two thirds of people with food allergies are under thirty" and that "the majority are children under six"? The authors say that "in most cases, children and young adults are too yin and should follow the guidelines for Diet#1 (see page 395) to strengthen their blood quality and reduce their sensitivity to selected foods. In the meantime they should avoid the food that causes the reaction for three to four months, until their blood quality changes. Every day, miso soup and a small amount of sea vegetables should be taken." The authors provide several specific home remedies for the condition, and dietary, lifestyle, and home remedy recommendations for people with chronic allergies. Regarding the soy products, go really light on the tofu and products made from unfermented soy. Occasionally eat foods containing tempeh, and natto. Have miso soup often, and season many dishes that you are cooking with shoyu, and sometimes tamari. And, ...don't use soy sauce (shoyu or tamari) as a condiment! Thank you, very much. Bruce Paine |

Re: soy headaches
Thanks Bruce. No, haven't had a chance to hike with the titanium yet, grindin it the 9-5 way right now. We do our long hikes during transistory periods in our life, it allows great reflection and preparation. I never know when these transitions are coming, but I have learned to be prepared for them!
We moved to Venice now and the air is so much better. Anything inland in LA and air is so bad now. I figured food sensitivites are a result of too much yin, and I'd be lying if I said I never over indulge in yin. I'll have to lean towards the #1 and slowly incorporate legumes back in. Thanks again for the tips. |
