Grape Cleansing Diet

What would a grade cleaning diet do to your system from a macrobiotics perspective? All you eat is grapes (and drink water) for 2 weeks. It seems very extreme yin to me making your blood overly acidic and i don't see how this could be good for you. I read on one of Nancy's posts that a water cleaning diet is very yin but effective. Could a fruit and water diet be effective as well?

My mother has just started the grape cleansing diet and I am trying to find out as much as possible so that I can perhaps gently guide her onto a better cleasing regime. She told me she is having terrible cravings for salty foods (understandable) and has occassionally had a srape of miso on a rice cracker or the juice of a umiboshi plum to see her through the day.

I would really appreciate your thoughts on this.

cheers, Janet

Re: Grape Cleansing Diet

Hi Janet,

I haven't yet heard of the Grape Cleansing Diet, but there are many diets out there, cleansing and other. Is there anything to the diet, other than grapes and water?

The unfortunate thing about mono diets, all one food, or just a few foods, is that they are by nature, --extreme. All grapes, is all Yin, fruit Yin. This will cause the body to reel around in an attempt to balance, and crave something Yang, salt versus sweet. Alkaline versus acid. Thus, one is then balancing at the extremes, which is the very thing that causes disease. It is like putting our wonderful body machinery in a rocky boat on choppy, high seas. It will very likely get -sea sick- .

There are Fruitarians, a sect of Vegetarianism. This is very appealing to the extreme tendencies of some people. I once knew someone who ate only oranges for a whole month. I no longer remember the details of the effects of this diet on his health. To those who are interested in a balanced life, this is not balance. And, a month on oranges is not what we would call a balanced diet, to get the full range of nutrients for optimal health.

Many people who are experienced Fasters, Fast (usually a few days) on Water Only. Coming off the Fast, having consumed Water Only for let's say three days, you cannot fill up on lots of food without intestinal distress. It is recommended to drink diluted fruit juice the first day off the Fast, full strength fruit juice the second day off the Fast, and something like plain yogurt combined with diced apples the third day off the Fast, --then resume moderate, but normal eating. Hopefully, --good whole grains and cooked vegetables after such an arduous cleansing.

This is very healing, but as I say above, arduous. Many people couldn't do it. The Faster must also nap and rest a lot and body temperature feels somewhat chilly consuming water only. If sick with a Yin disease (Diabetes, many cancers, etc.), then is only fruit good to consume -- no. If in good health, a Water Fast, or grape and water diet for a limited time will not hurt (1-3 days). Longer than that, and it is an extreme practice that will not provide enough strength to go to work or exert oneself. This is the way anorexics get into trouble putting strain on their hearts. The older a person is, the less able their heart is to take this kind of strain.

It is very easy to do a cleansing diet on organic whole grains and cooked (steamed or other) vegetables for several days, with no ebb in strength and no strain on the heart.

Each person is responsible for these judicious decisions as to how to treat their own bodies. Providing nutritious, organic, warming foods in winter is the best way to go for optimum strength, physical and mental health, and the release of previously ingested toxins.

Be Well,
Nancy

Talking Re: grape cleansing diet

Hi Janet,

I read your journal and I am interested in your way of fasting by the fruits. I am the people from South East Asia so I am not quite sure that it will be good for me or not. I will try it as the best way to learn is to try myself then I will know. I feel cool at my back bone near my waist and I think I am too yang. I think grapes will give me more yin in my body so I will do the grape cleansing diet. I intend to do for one week if it is good I will extend it to two weeks. Here is my MB history. I start to eat MB for 6 months without any meat pork beef ,etc. I have only fish and shrimp. This is my first time to do my fasting. I hope a lot and curious to know the outcome.
Thank you for your information
Have a nice day
Lak

Re: Grape Cleansing Diet

Hi Lak and Janet,

I have noticed the tremendous popularity of this thread, and have run across more data on grapes and cleansing. Grapes assist the body in burning fat, while keeping blood sugar from falling too low. Grapes are good body and blood builders, as is good quality grape juice. Grapes are helpful to liver disorders, anemia, jaundice, acne, and skin diseases. They stimulate circulation, and act as a mild laxative. Grapes are helpful in reducing diets, conditions of nervousness, and low blood pressure. They are NOT recommended for Diabetics or those prone to diarrhea and hyperacidity.

Grapes can be an important adjunct to a sensible fast, and are a very good fruit to consume regularly, especially when in season.

Good quality wine (and beer) are considered healthy foods, in moderation, and are permissible on the Macrobiotic Diet.

So says the Grape,

Nancy

Re: Grape Cleansing Diet

Grapes are helpful in reducing diets, conditions of nervousness, and low blood pressure.

Hi Lak,

Grapes are helpful in reducing diets.
Grapes help heal a nervous condition.
Grapes regulate low blood pressure by bringing it up to normal.

************
It is a good guess that grapes would also regulate high blood pressure by bringing it down to normal. I do not think a natural food, such as grapes, will cause harm to high blood pressure.

Again, a water and grape fast is not recommended. A healthier fast is a grain fast on organic brown rice (or other cereal grains) and moderate amounts of organic Kukicha Tea. If craving more food, add natural organic vegetables (root vegetables recommended as the most balanced, i.e. onions, turnips, rutabagas, carrots, parsnips, etc.). Natural grains and vegetables will cleanse the blood, without weakening the body.

Smile Re: Grape Cleansing Diet

Hi Nancy,

Thank you for your suggestion. I have brown rice, vegetables ( carrot, beet root, daikon, cabbage, broccoli, onion and spinach) pumpkin soup, miso with Chinese seaweed soup and some Thai spicy Tomyam soup. I make it easy cooking and change my menu variable everyday. I behave on this food for 6 months now and do the exercise twice a week. I think about fasting because I ate pork for more than 35 years. I would like to clean my stomach once

Perhaps I am too rush as I just start the above food for 6 moths. It should takes a long times to clean my blood. I drink one cup of green tea every day. I find now the interesting journal in this forum about the various MB tea. I will read it and find one for me with my high blood pressure.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2005
Best Regards,
Lak

Re: Grape Cleansing Diet

Hi Folks,

I continue to see high interest in this thread and the grape cleansing diet. Over this year, I have since found out more about grapes and cleansing. There is a grape protocol diet used to eradicate Stage IV cancer, that can also be used for simpler cancer conditions. I am sharing this information in this post, but I am not prescribing this protocol for anyone. Everyone is their own healer, by the actions and decisions they choose for themselves, and must be entirely responsible for their own decisions.

The protocol involves 5 weeks of at least 2 quarts a day of purple skinned grape mush, then a week of normal food, and back to a 5 week grape regimen to be repeated until health goals are met. Concord grapes being the very best, prepared in a mush with distilled or purified water, adding the seeds of the grapes as very important components.

There are several highly effective properties of the purple grape, Reservatol being one, that are effective in eradicating cancer cells, while leaving normal surrounding tissue healthy. Reservatol is found in the dark purple grape skins, and is thus also the ingredient recommended for heart patients by drinking a glass of red wine a day.

There is more to this protocol. Please click on my membership name and send a private message or e mail for a link and more information.
