wonderful Umeboshi plums

Hi All

I have just read that umeboshi plums are very good to alkaline the blood, stimulates efficient detoxification by the kidneys and liver and boosts your immune system. The article discussed the author eating one plum each day while she was travelling overseas.

Although I am not travelling, I am keen to utilise the power of the umeboshi plum!! Do you think it would be ok for me to eat one plum a day? Should I start with one every second day? Can I just pop it into my mouth and eat it rather than using the plum in a home remedy beverage (eg ume-sho-ban or ume-sho-kuku). I would prefer to eat it whole as I don't actually mind the taste and the I just cannot drink the beverages listed above (I've tried and almost threw up).

Janet

Janet,

Umeboshi plums are indeed wonderful. They are so powerful, that they are usually used as a remedy, not everyday, but you could try it.

Eating an umeboshi plum will stop any kind of nausea within minutes.

At this time of the year, umeboshi paste spread on hot corn-on-the-cob, is especially delicious.

Plums or paste make good salad dressings (blanched) with a few other ingredients.

Umeboshi plums are an aquired taste (quickly). My mom is not macrobiotic and could not believe the taste when she first had one. I love them. I am in good company with Christina Aguillara, who lived in Japan for many of her formative years, and ate umeboshi plums. She loves them. She brought a plate of umeboshis on the set of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, stuck with toothpicks. Jay tried one, and while Christina turned her head, threw it in a plant.

People don't know what they're missing.

Sure, pop a whole plum. Delicious.

Nancy
