sticky thoughts

I have noticed that when I eat millet in the morning, my thoughts seem stickier and my actions slower than if I eat good ol' brown rice. The same is true with oatmeal. Brown rice is the only thing that seems to give set me up to optimum mental and physical performance. Are my thoughts/actions sticky because millet is a sticky grain?

millet contains a thyroid suppressing component. According to Sally Fallon, if you eat alot of it, be sure to ferment it first and remove the husk.

Re: sticky thoughts

MP,

Different grains and cooking methods do affect our outlook and mental functioning. Currently, for my condition, I am pressure cooking and rotating what I call "grains for the day". I make 1 cup of fresh grains daily. I rotate with 1) 1 cup short grain brown rice 2) 2/3 c. brown rice, 1/3 c. cup millet 3) 2/3 c. brown rice, 1/3 c. barley 4) 2/3 c. brown rice, 1/3 c. lentils (or aduki beans). Then back to the first rotation.

My ratio of grains to water is 1: 2. I do not use seasalt (at present, for my condition) in grains, but instead a postage size piece of kombu. This opens the grain shell providing accessible nutrients and easier digestion. Cooking length at 30 minutes provides moist, firm grains, a little longer and they are firmer. Thus a little more yang, which seems to be what you like, and what also firms up your thoughts and resolve.

Nancy
