new girl

hello, I am new here. I need a drastic change in my life right now. This is nothing too unfamiliar for me, to start a MB lifestyle, because I have done some similar things before. I am in nursing school so I am always hitting the books, so at this point I am unable to read alot about MB. I am looking for advice from all of you until I get a break from school. (i'll have 10 days off soon). Mainly, my personality would benefit from this type of living, as well as my messed up ideas towards food. I have an "all-or-nothing" personality that interupts relationships, friendships, and affects every aspect of my life. I do not know how to balance anything or live in moderation. This is my greatest life challenge. Any advice along the way will be much appreciated.

My first question is, should I begin with a fast (which I am familiar with) or begin to eliminate foods gradually? Also, I am in a period of high stress for the next 5 days. should I begin now? or wait until finals are over??

Thank you, keep the hope.

prana

Re: new girl

Welcome prana, and I'm sorry no one has gotten to you sooner. I have a feeling we are all busy with things in the real world right now. I hope that your finals went well or are going well.

As far as transitioning to macro, you should take it easy. If you are too strict with yourself too soon, you could really burn out/get depressed. Do you have any good cookbooks? A good one for starters is The Self-Healing Cookbook by Kristina Turner. Another really good book for understanding the macrobiotic way is Food and Healing by Annemarie Colbin. Colbin is also the author of a cookbook called The Book of Whole Meals.

Good luck and feel free to ask any more questions.
