Re: i would like to lose weight
nila480,
I don't know if you are 18 or 45 whether you've had children or not (things that help one determine a person's metabolism), and there is no such thing as normal from a macrobiotic perspective, so if you don't want someone to get a complete enough picture of what you are about to help you lose weight, maybe you should just eat less. You can't gain if you eat less and it's almost guarenteed that you'll lose weight. Why are you choosing macrobiotics? What benefit(s) do you expect to derive from it? If you just fast and drink water and juice, and increase your activity, you will certainly lose weight. But this is a macrobiotic website and macrobiotics is not geared specifically to losing weight. Some people gain weight and others lose it and many more just maintain it. If you eat a standard macrobiotic diet of soup, whole grains, beans, vegetables, sea vegetables, seeds, fermented foods, etc. but chew very well and eat less than what satisfies you, you will probably lose weight but relatively slowly, though you"ll probably maintain your health, well being and equilibrium. You do more extreme things like a 12 day brown rice fast, and/or ginger compresses with a strict diet, and/or plenty of liquids and lots of exercise, you'll probably lose weight faster but be more more vulnerable to becoming unbalanced and experiencing heavy discharges (sickness). It all depends on what you want and your condition and constitution. But if you reveal little about yourself then others won't have enough to go on to really help you. So what are you going to do? Thank you, very much. Bruce Paine |

Re: i would like to lose weight
Dear Nila
I personally know someone who has lost nearly 60kg on MB diet over a period of 3-4 years. He didn't think he had any health problems - only when these problems (headaches, digestive problems and more) have disappeared he realized he was suffering! I have started macrobiotics myself because I was curious. I also thought that my health was quite OK when I started, and was very surprised that after a few months my allergies have disappeared never to return again ![]() MB is not a diet that is specifically meant for weight loss. It is meant to bring the body to a state of balance. If you apply MB principles correctly, then your body will adjust itself and will do the work of bringing itself back to balance, which will probably result in losing weight in your case. To really enjoy the benefits of MB I suggest that you go to cooking classes - MB food is very special and can be very delicious if you know how to make it. As opposed to other dietary regimens that suggest a limited diet for a limited time, with food that is usually not very satisfying, once you adapt to macrobiotics, then you find that macrobiotic food is very rich and versatile, and that macrobiotic cooking can be a real pleasure. Good luck Karny P.S. - If you are interested to study more about MB, I also suggest that you read about it. A nice book is "The Macrobiotic Way" by Michio Kushi, it explains about the theory, the food and also gives nice lifestyle suggestions. Last edited by karnul; 05-07-2004 at 08:13 PM. |

Nila,
The Macrobiotic Way: The Complete Macrobiotic Diet & Exercise Book by Michio Kushi and Stephen Blauer http://www.kushistore.com/acatalog/welcome.html, has just come out in it's 3rd edition and it's an excellent book. Check out The Macrobiotic Diet and Weight Loss subchapter under Fats and the Macrobiotic Diet chapter. Another great book is The Self-Healing Cookbook: A Macrobiotic Primer for Healing Body, Mind and Moods With Whole, Natural Foods by Kristina Turner http://www.qualitynaturalfoods.com/s...lcookbook.html is another excellent book in it's 15th edition. Starting with To Lose Weight Naturally and continuing with Slimming Diet Guidelines and Slim Rhythms for either EXTRA-LIGHT or MORE GROUNDED, Kristina covers the weight loss issue pretty comprehensively in six pages of material. I'd recommend getting both books if you can and then have a great time losing weight while regaining your flexibility. Since I moved into this macrobiotic house (where we often refer to Kristina's book), six months ago, I've lost at least 10 pounds, have tossed out the suspenders, and am wearing jeans that are more than several inches too big around the middle for me. Thank you, very much. Bruce Paine |
