Teresa Heinz Kerry interested in alternative medicine, tai chi
Blunt and Influential, Kerry's Wife Is an X Factor
By DAVID M. HALBFINGER Published: February 22, 2004 But Ms. Heinz Kerry, a physician's daughter who peruses medical journals and toxicology articles and is intrigued by alternative medicine and Eastern philosophy, knew enough to have her husband's blood retested for C-reactive protein, a little-known indicator of potentially cancerous inflammation. Two days before Christmas, his doctor told Mr. Kerry that his wife's fears were well placed; he was in the very early stages of prostate cancer. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/22/po...2HEIN.html?8bl imagine the kind of publicity we could get with an attentive and sympathetic first lady... The article is worth a read, by the way. I have heard Teresa speak on C-Span and she always impresses me with her gentle and intelligent manner. Last edited by MJS; 03-01-2004 at 07:00 PM. |

Re: Teresa Heinz Kerry interested in alternative medicine, tai chi
MJS,
Dr. Dean Ornish and Patrick McCarty met with Hillary Clinton when the Clintons were in the White House http://www.imss.macrobiotic.net/PM.html. Did that make a difference in either Hillary, Bill Clinton, or the nation? Dennis J. Kucinich http://www.politics1.com/kucinich.htm has close ties to Michio Kushi http://www.alternet.org/story.html?StoryID=17567 http://www.imss.macrobiotic.net/MB%20in%20Congress.html, and Alex Jack http://www.amberwaves.org/? Is that fact enough to get you to charge out and support Kucinich? Try as I might, I can't find any ties between George W. Bush and macrobiotics. Do you think he or his First Lady, Laura Bush would be interested if you brought macrobiotics to their attention? Does it make any difference if influential politicians adopt and/or promote macrobiotics? If so, then I suggest that you and everyone else get on the phone, write a letter, or e-mail your favorite elected official and tell them to support and promote macrobiotics. See if you can reach Teresa Heinz Kerry http://www.johnkerry.com/about_teresa/ and get her to take that next step to macrobiotics, and then with the effect and influence that might have on the candidate, you can have a tremendous impact on his possible presidency, life, and the nation. Otherwise, you can continue working on your own health and progress, as we all are. Thank you, very much. Bruce Paine Last edited by Bruce Paine; 02-24-2004 at 09:06 AM. |

Re: Teresa Heinz Kerry interested in alternative medicine, tai chi
Good morning Bruce,
I just see signs of hope & progress all the time and call them when I see them. However, I think you're right that there are no ties between Bush and anything progressive. I do think a person predisposed to be supportive, rather than skeptical, of traditional healing and Eastern philosophy is a positive presence in the White House. Don't you think an early mention of these things on the campaign trail shows she could come out as an advocate for them? Anyway, perhaps I will contact Theresa if she becomes First lady, (or even if she does not.) Maybe someone nearer to the capital will. Maybe a book will be written and she will read it and promote it. Anything's possible, right? Mara Jean [ Last edited by MJS; 02-24-2004 at 03:26 PM. Reason: clarity |

So, MJS,
Which do you think is a healthier snack food: pork rinds, or broccoli? Did you know that in the last almost four years the pork rind industry has been booming? As a low carbohydrate food, it is gaining ground amongst those high protein dieters http://www.lowcarb.ca/articles/article163.html, that we macros are so fond of. Apparently on that dietary regimen, you can eat salmon and pork rinds in the same meal http://www.titanic.kn-bremen.de/snack25.html. Either, we macros are going to have eat a lot more broccoli, or we are going to have someone in the front office with a perchant for dark leafy greens focusing the country and the world on the fact that we Americans have the right kind of fiber to make a difference. So which is it: four more years of pork rinds or the next eight years of dark fiberous leafy greens like broccoli and kale? Thank you, very much. Bruce Paine |

I don't understand exactly what you're getting at Bruce, but you made me laugh anyway. You have a subtle sense of humor, no? Are you saying I am premature in "seeing signs of hope and progress"? Maybe you are right.
To answer your earlier questions, I do think that influential people adopting and promoting a healthier lifestyle can make a huge difference. What do you think? Last edited by MJS; 06-06-2004 at 07:43 PM. |

Re: Moderator No ted
I met Kucinich. He was influenced by John Robbins, and is vegan, and has been for 20 years. I wanted to ask him if he knew those great Macro teachers in Cleveland, where he was Mayor.
