Re: depression
bobbarobba,
Telling us that you have been on macro for 6 weeks and that you are suffering from depression, tells us very little. Without identifying youself, tell us the rest of the story. What do you eat now, specifically a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu for the past six weeks, what recipes are you using, or who taught you your macrobiotic cooking style? What was your diet previously to macrobiotics, and for your whole life before that? What kind of climate do you live in and what season is it, now? What kinds of work or daily activity do you do, and how much sleep do you get? You know, that to give anyone a diagnosis of their condition, one needs to know more than just two facts about them. You can also learn more about macrobiotics and healing and improve your health and well being without anyone else's involvement, if you wish. Michio Kushi and Alex Jack in their recently published The Macrobiotic Path to Total Health: A Complete Guide to Preventing and Relieving More Than 200 Chronic Conditions and Disorders (Hardcover: 560 pages ; Dimensions (in inches): 1.68 x 9.55 x 7.81 Publisher: Ballantine Books; 1st edition (August 2003) ISBN: 0345439872) http://www.randomhouse.com/BB/catalo...ealth.html</a> http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/se...325535-4075939 covers depression along with other mental and emotional problems. If you can't easily find a copy at your local library or a book store where you can read a copy if you are cash poor, then consider buying a used copy from either Amazon.com (I bought three used copies to have a traveling copy and for my friends and housemates) or http://www.bookfinder.com/. By the way, what macrobiotic books have you read or gotten, so far. A book that is out of print that might also be helpful is Food For Thought: A New Look at Food and Behavior by Dr. Saul Miller and Dr. Joanne Miller (Hardcover & Paperback, Publisher: Prentice Hall Trade; (November 1979) ISBN 0133228347) http://www.saulmiller.com/page_1576.html http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...325535-4075939 http://www.bookfinder.com/. How you proceed, is up to you. Have a great journey and learning experience! Thank you, very much. Bruce Paine |

Follow the standard diet. Be sure to be balanced in your cooking. Do not skip those dishes that are yin balancing at a meal. It takes 4 months before your blood is renewed so be disciplined and patient. Take cooking classes and take this time to really read and apply your new knowledge to your meal preparation. Typically during winter and to much yang cooking and grain consumption (mainly brown rice) we get sluggish, heavy feeling, lack of drive, depressed...sounding familiar. Best of luck.
