Angry Help For A Sugar Addict!

Hello everyone,

I was hopefully looking for some advice in a certain area of my Macrobiotic Diet. Since I’ve started this diet a couple of days ago I have noticed that I have been seriously craving high-sugar foods. What should I do about this addiction coming on so strongly? I am aware that of course these foods are not allowed in the diet at all! I do admit that before going on the Macrobiotic path I ate allot of sugar products (almost daily) and I want to kick this habit but at this point it seems very hard to do. I have not given into the craving as of yet. Could someone give me some advise on this issue?

Felisha,

Before you started this "Macrobiotic Diet" what was your diet going back to your childhood?

And what is your diet now?

Saying that you are on a "Macrobiotic Diet" doesn't mean anything if you are eating too yang and are having to binge on extreme yin.

Something is attracting you to extreme yin and it isn't from eating a balanced macrobiotic diet.

Tell us what you've been eating, up to now.

Thank you, very much

Bruce Paine

First of all thank you Bruce for responding to my post.

Before you started this "Macrobiotic Diet" what was your diet going back to your childhood?

As far as I can remember I have always eaten very unhealthy (well I was forced to eat what my parents had for me to eat) these foods were very hight fat greasy animal foods and rarely any vegetables.

And what is your diet now?

It's mainley a vegitarian diet. I have been eating fish sparingly however and on occassion I do eat cheese and eggs. I did consume white flour products daily but I have not since 11/17/03 starting Marcrobiotics.

Saying that you are on a "Macrobiotic Diet" doesn't mean anything if you are eating too yang and are having to binge on extreme yin.

Like I said earlier in my post, I have not binged on anything yet. I said that I was having STRONG CRAVINGS for sugar and have not given into them. I'm following ALL guidelines in the books I am reading now on the subject and still the craving remain.

Something is attracting you to extreme yin and it isn't from eating a balanced macrobiotic diet.

I don't know what it could be, which brings me to my original question of advice!

I knew a Zen Master once who had a macro cook. He said that he always wanted a coke afterwards! I think prehaps his cook used a lot of soy and other high sodium seasonings. Try less sodium, adn enjoy seasonal fruit after meals. See waht happens.

Hey what do you know, it worked - I'm cured! I really did not realize that this was the cause of me wanting sugar. I also became aware of how much salt I had been eating since starting the program. Your advice worked, thank you so much Johnnyzen - you're the greatest!

Re: Help For A Sugar Addict!

I'm getting real confused on this salt issue as to making sure that ones intake is not to much. What I can't figure out is if you're eating pressed salads and umeboshi plums is that consider salt intake?[b][i]

Re: Help For A Sugar Addict!

It is generally advised that after making your pressed salad or quick pickle that if it is salty, you simply wash the salt off.

For some people, raw salads are not advised, so a press salad is a good thing as you are getting closer to raw vegetables, but the result is something that is more easily digestable.

Jiggy,

are you sure sugar is all you are addicted to?
If you come from a drug background, then sugar isn't
the worst thing for you at this point. Eat some fish too.

Re: Help For A Sugar Addict!

Yeh man for a while I wasnt 100% sure that its sugar that i got this freaking addiction too but now there is no doubt. I have done drugs growing up, ya know like weed, booze, cigarettes(which been hearing are mostly cured with sugar, hence the tru reason for their addictiveness) and I outgrew all of those habits many out of necessity cuz of the law, but also because it doesnt appeal to me anymore. But sugar(like reFINED sugar) is something i have never been able to keep away from since i was a kid(from birth maybe). This shit is really messing up my body but im not on this board crying for help im just gunna stand tall and continue to resist temptation. Maybe hear some of your stories and advice.
Oh and yeh i like fish alot. I kinda getting hardcore into fish like drinking some of the blood and eating the eyes(high in vitamin A) so i read in some of my tribal books. yeh maybe i focus too much on sugar, but through two years of experimentation i notice its effects.

"show me your yin, i'll show you my yang"
