Re: Atkins Diet

A raw vegan diet is inappropriate for most people, Johnnyzen, and certainly is not macrobiotic.

It seems to me that the Atkins diet and the raw foods diet are at opposite, extreme ends of the diet spectrum, and they both incur negative effects upon the individual. Any raw food enthusiasts I have known have been chronically depressed and fatigued as well as prone to catching every cold or flu that comes around. They follow the diet with a religious zeal and no interest in common sense.

The macrobiotic diet is the middle way and the only dietary way of realizing one's true humanity, and one's health in relation not only to diet but to the climate, the seasons and a multitude of other factors yin and yang.

Re: Atkins Diet

Raw vegetable foods are for rabbits and deer. They won't do you any better than Atkins. They are both diets for animals, not humans. Macrobiotics is for humans.
Raw foods and animal foods both create a slave mind. Whole cooked grains with salt primarily, complimented with temperate cooked vegetables, create a free mind. Remember the Buddha's earlobes. They were created by mainly cooked grains with salt. Animals have ears that grow up, not down. Animals are not free. Animals can't cook food.

Re: Atkins Diet

I've never met anyone who went on the Atkins/ or low carb diet for any reason other than the lose weight. I waited tables at a restaurant and all the fat customers were skipping the starch/grains to lose weight. For some people, especially overweight people, a healthy diet is simply one that causes weight loss.

Macrobiotics doesn't have a goal of weight loss. I've always been slim, but when I originally started with macrobiotics I actually gained a little weight.

P.S. My dog prefers human food like seaweed salad.

Re: Atkins Diet

Probably a combination of cooked and raw is best. Many macros eat a big salad daily, especially in warmer weather.

One thing most of us can agree on. Atkins is absurd, and discussing it here is rather ridiculous.

There is much information regarding the dangers of this diet from many sources.

Re: Atkins Diet

Hi Johnnyzen,

Thanks again for all your valuable comments to this thread. The good news probably is that the Atkins diet popularity is waning at this point.

Re: Atkins Diet

I am brand new to the forums and slowly transition from a low carb way of life to a more macro-based diet. Its clear that a lot of folks have some twisted perceptions about the low carb lifestyle. I strongly suggest reading the actual books before taking up arguments for either side. Make sure you are citing truth in your arguments. A really good community out there for Low carb folks call Active Low Carb Forum. Google it for more info. If you have questions about LC, these folks are happy to give you the facts.

I've been low carbing (LC) it for over 2 years and lost roughly 50 pounds on LC. The diet changed my life and helped me to realize the evils of processed foods and refined sugars. I ate lots of eggs and fish, tons of veggies and the occaisional handul of berries. I learned to cook with Soy Flour and stopped shopping in the middle aisles of the grocery store. I learned the importance of eating at least three square meals per day. Overall LC changed my life and taught me that I could lose weight (I failed on every other plan, such as Weight Watchers). I no longer felt like a fat loser.

Yes, LC eating is bad if you eat bacon every day all day, but I will argue to no end about how eating eggs and fish along with large amounts of vegetables changed my life and gave me new hope. A diet is what you make of it. I ate more vegetables on LC, than I ever did before that way of life!!

Recently I decided that I wanted to shift my sights from the "being thin" focus to "being healthy in the long term". I've developed psoriasis on my scalp and a number of cancers run in my family. I am a regular sufferer of hypoglycemia and am interested in learning how to prepare eat the right types of carbohyrdates to fuel my body. I think its a smarter life choice for the long run and also more livable. I am also focusing on quitting smoking and just getting the chemicals out of my diet. I look forward to sharing this experience with each of you.

Blessings,

Shauna
