New Here!
Hi, I am new here. I am 49 years old and have been vegetarian my adult life. During these years I have been Macrobiotic off and on. I was diagnosed bipolar, and attribute some of this condition to my off and on again status. I have stabilized the effects of this illness with natural supplements and a return to macrobiotics. My wife was recently diagnosed with Lymphoma. She is vegetarian, but is not inclined towards Macrobiotics. She doesn't like miso, and I would really like to get her to have some each day. Any suggestions to make it more palatable to her? Also, any suggestions to a daily diet that would be helpful to her condition?
Thank you for your help, and nice meeting you all! Glenn |

Re: New Here!
Hi Glenn,
Congratulations for the off and on status. That is much more difficult than the off status and it gets better from here. Tell us what your wife's diet consists of and what she doesn't like about the miso. What kind of miso has she had, already? If all she has had were the recommended 2 to 3 year old barley miso, then maybe that's too yang for her and she might like the red (kome or rice miso) or brown rice miso. if those are still too yang for her she could try the white or mellow light miso. All your misos should be both organic and unpasteurized. Also, you can mix the dark and light misos in the soup to give both healing and palatability for the sensitive miso consumer. Sometimes persons find the miso to be too salty and either one uses more liquid or more comestibles like tofu, shiitake mushroom, daikon, cabbage, watercress, noodles, grains, beans, herbs, etc. How much miso do you use in relation to liquid and other ingredients? How do you make the miso soup? Where did you learn to cook macrobiotic food and what cookbooks do you have? Macrobiotic cookbooks are excellent places to find good miso soup recipes and a good starter book is Kristina Turner's "The Self-Healing Cookbook:A Macrobiotic Primer for Healing Body, Mind, and Moods with Whole, Natural Foods" which you can find via links 1 through 4 at Bruce Paine's Macrobiotic Hyperlinks ( http://brucepainesmacrobiotichyperlinks.blogspot.com/ ), besides amazon.com, bookfinder.com, your local bookstore, and your local public library. I hope this helps. Thank you, very much. Bruce Paine Quote:
