kidneys

Hello fellow miso lovers,

I have a question for you. I wanted to know what are the signs and symptoms of kidney weakness. And then, what can one do to strengthen their kidneys?

I would really really appreciate your responses.

My daughter’s son is suffering from serious kidneys problem (his kidneys are almost not operating), he is 1 years old, and the problem started when his mother was pregnant.

I would really appreciate your help.

adawood,

Michio Kushi and Alex Jack in their recently published The Macrobiotic Path to Total Health: A Complete Guide to Preventing and Relieving More Than 200 Chronic Conditions and Disorders Naturally
( Ballantine Books hardcover/546 pages ISBN: 0345439872 )
http://www.randomhouse.com/BB/catalo...345439872#desc http://www.randomhouse.com/BB/catalo...&view=excerpt3 which you can buy at Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...75939?v=glance both in new and used editions, via Yahoo Groups Macro: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...325535-4075939 or at the Kushi Institute Store: http://www.kushistore.com/acatalog/Food___Health.html or at your local public library or bookstore, do an excellent job of addressing Kidney problems and especially kidney disease on pages 272 and 274.

I recommend that you get a copy of this book and read what they have to say on the subject.

If you can't afford a copy (I have bought both new copies at $27 and $19 and used ones for less than $10) then I might put up some of the essential information including the Solution (Diet, Lifestyle and Home Remedies) recommendations.

Thank you, very much.

Re: kidneys

Weak kidneys can cause some or all of the following symptoms ( I can't write all of the down):
pruritus, anemia, fatigue, exhaustion, shortage of breath, excitability, dizziness, coma, nausea, burning or prickling in the legs

The kidneys are very important for our total health. There are lots of different recommendations, based on whether the kidney trouble is caused by yin or yang food. It might be good for you to see a macrobiotic-counselor for help or read the recommended books. This will give you a lot more info than what I can tell you here. Especially for the little boy.

But for the beginning the following recommendations are helpful for both yin and yang kidney trouble:

A ginger compress above the kidney region daily, for 20 minutes, for about a month.
Ginger compress purpose: to dissolve stagnation and tension, melt blockages and stimulate blood circulation and energy flow.
How to: Heat about one gallon of water, but do not bring to a boil.
Meanwhile, grate enough ginger root to equal the size of a small baseball.
When the water becomes hot, reduce heat to low and place the ginger into a single layer of cheesecloth. Tie with a string and squeeze the ginger jiuce from the cheesecloth sack into the water.
Place the sack into the pot and allow it to steep in the water without boiling for about five minutes.
Dip a towel into the ginger water, wring out tightly and apply it to the desired area (on the kidney region on your back). Cover with a second dry towel to hold in the heat.
Change the towel every two to three minutes, replacing it with a fresh hot towel. This can be done using two towels and alternating them so that the skin does not cool off between applications.
Continue the applications for about 20 minutes or until the area becomes pink.

Walking in the grass (barefoot), every morning for about 5-20 minutes.

2-3 times a week 60°C sauna (infrared) for about 20 minutes.

A saltbath, 2-3 times a week (1% salt per 100% water).

All this home remedies will be useless without macrobiotic eating.

Fot the little boy I would recommend to eat rice-pap (rice cooked with water only) with grated Daikon-radish (white long radish) every day.
Avoid: dairy, meat, eggs, sugar and other sweets (except grainmalt), tomatoes and potatoes

And as I said above: please contact someone who really knows and who can tell you more, especially for your cases.
