If there is no blood in the urine and you can tolerate pain you can try a salt sitz bath with any kind of seaweed or dried daikon or turnip leaves, twice daily for twenty minutes at a stretch.
In addition to eating a more strict macro food regimine (especially brown rice cooked wit aduki beans) you should also drink kukicha tea with uva ursi herb (bearbery) infused with it. If you can not find uva ursi you can use 20 drops of goldenseal tincture (non-alcohol type) in the tea. Should pain or bleeding become exaggerated you need to see your GYN to be sure there is nothing more serious going on. Good luck. If you need more specificinstructions with the baths please let me know. In peace, Roy |

RE: UTI & Antibiotics
Roy,
Thank you so much for your quick reply... I know what a salt bath is, but what is meant by the word "sitz." I will definitenly take this measures in the future if ever I may develop a UTI again, which I sincerly hope will not happen. Unfortunately, I have decided to take antibiotics ( macrobid 100mg capsules) for 10 day. These specific antiobiotics are designed to enter the urinary bladder. I have been on this antibiotics for 5 days now and I really don't like the way they feel. I get nausea. I feel like the energy of antibiotics travels upward also causing a slight headache and I feel faint. All is better if I eat enough before and after taking this antibiotics, but I am concerned of creating yet a too yin condition, now that I have take them for 5 more days. I don't know if I am overreacting, but I just feel quite sensitive to this medications. I just wonder if I should take them for the full 10 days... I have been macrobiotic for 5-6 years now and sometimes I wonder if medical/western approach is too harsh in terms of days of precribed medications (antibiotics) on macrobiotic people. Also, I would love if you can recommend specific food that I should try to have more of while I continue to take anitibiotics...I am making sure to eat more aduki beans, grains, miso soup, and greens. Thanks you for your time. sincerely, vicky

Vicki. Once you start the anitbiotics you need to stick then out for the full 10 day course otherwise they will not work. It is good that you are focusing on eating a more restrictive macrobiotic regimine as this will make the body more alkline. Once you finish the antibiotics you need to take at least one cap of acidophilus per day for 10 days. This will replace the intestinal flora that was destroyed by the antibiotics. I am assuming that the condition was serious and so you opted for medical care. That would be the right protocol in my opinion, especially if there was bleeding, as I stated earlier.
The sitz bath is the same thing as a hip or salt bath, just different words. I hope this helps. In peace, Roy |

UTI still, now ureaplasm Urealyticum
Roy,
It has been a while since I have logged in. I have tried the antibiotics with no success. According to my Gynecologist, I have tested postive for ureaplasm. And, now she wants to prescribe Thantibiotics, Doxycycline, which is quite potent enough to produce an ulcer if I don't drink enough water. I don't want to take them, I rather heal naturally if possible. So, this brings me back to trying out the sitz/hip baths you prescribed a while back here. I have faith that they will work for me. I wanted to know if you can outline specific, yet concise directions for these baths? Also, I wasn't quite clear to the ingredients. My understanding is that hip baths are an infusion of diakon tops/greens, which one can add sea salt to, right? What really sounds satifying is an addition of wakame to the concoction. I feel that this infection needs to be cooled down, there is much heat/thirst/heat sensation in this condition. Also, should I also add dried diakon to this mix? What specific ingredients should I include in this infusion because I plan these baths twice daily. As for the bancha/uva ursi infusion, I am drinking that...I read in Prescription for Herbal Healing (Balch) that with each dose of uva ursi, it is recommended 1/4 teaspoon of backing soda mixed with 1/3 cup of water. Do you agree with this and what is its purpose? Thanks so much for you time, Roy, your the greatest! sincerely, vicky in pasadena, determined to get rid of this without the use of antibiotics

Re: UTI still, now ureaplasm Urealyticum, etc
vicky, the easiest thing for you to do in this matter is to go up to oroville (about 1-1/2 hours north of sacramento) to see cornellia. she has 50 years' experience in the practical application of mb. if your condition is indeed more complex than straight-forward, you'll may want to get her advice.

vicky,
Have you been to see Cornelia Aihara, yet? It's almost a day's drive away, from your location to Vega Study Center ( http://www.vega.macrobiotic.net/ ). I suppose that if you still want to try the hip bath first, you can, and here's the directions: From Macrobiotic Dietary Recommendations (by Michio and Aveline Kushi)/Home Remedies/Dried Daikon Leaves ( http://www.goodhealthinfo.net/mdr/home_remedies.htm ): "Used to warm the body and treat various disorders of the skin and female sex organs. Also helpful in drawing odors and excessive oils from the body. Dry fresh daikon leaves in the shade, away from direct sunlight, until they turn brown and brittle. (If daikon leaves are unavailable, turnip greens may be substituted.) Boil 4–5 bunches of the leaves in 4–5 quarts water until the water turns brown. Stir in a handful of sea salt and use in one of the following ways: 1.*** Dip cotton linen into the hot liquid and wring lightly. Apply to the affected area repeatedly, until the skin becomes completely red. 2. Women experiencing problems in their sexual organs should sit in a hot bath to which the daikon leaves liquid described above with the addition of 1 handful of sea salt has been added. The water should come to waist level, with the upper portion of the body covered with a towel. Remain in the water until the whole body becomes warm and sweating begins. This generally takes about 10 minutes. Repeat as needed, up to ten days. Following the bath, douche with warm bancha tea, a very small pinch of salt, and juice of half a lemon. " vicky, Kristina Turner in her classic The Self-Healing Cookbook:A Macrobiotic Primer for Healing Body, Mind and Moods With Whole Natural Foods and Michio Kushi with his editor Marc Van Cauwenberghe M.D. in Macrobiotic Home Remedies both have excellent descriptions and advice for women using daikon leaves hip bath to help heal various various uterine and vaginal diseases which I could either add them here or send you via a private e-mail. Unfortunately, Roy Collins has retired from on-line macrobiotic/herbal counseling, so if you want any more information from him, you might have to send him a private e-mail. Thank you, very much.
