Having gray hair at a young age tells that diet
has been too yang for a long time. Perhaps too
much animal food, eggs, salt, and lack of good quality
yin, such as steamed greens, salads, fruits.

What else makes a yang condition? Sudden tauma,
over-work, stress. This means overall condition is too tight.

Even if you change your diet to macrobiotic it may
not be possible to naturally change your hair so
that it is no longer gray. I have never seen this happen
in 35 years of practicing macro.

My hair was dark black until my daughter became a teenager
and was always in trouble. Within 5 years my hair and
beard turned white because she was constantly making stress in
our family lives. Even though we ate a varied diet with very
little animal food and lots of land and sea veggies we could
not control this.

It is good that they make natural hair coloring, yes?

In peace, Roy

I too have had grey hair that started when I was 21. After the birth of my first child at age 28, I went 90% grey. I've been macro now for 14 months (now I'm 41) and my hair has actually started to turn back! It's mostly around the front. I don't think it will ever completely turn, but it is really amazing. I was eating a vegan diet before Macrobiotics for 6 years. I think the sea vegatables help, we have two side dishes a week plus including small amounts in others.

Re: Gray Hair

Gray , or what it really is, "white" hair is not caused by stress or diet. It is genetics. Stress and diet are old wives tales. You are just as healthy and have the same tendancy towards stress with gray hair as you do without it.

But isn't it one of the finer points of macrobiotics that we can alter our genetics through eating and living well? =)
