Alopecia Areata

Hi Everyone

I have a disease called Alopecia Areata, where the immune system fails to recognize the bodies hair and rejects or attacks the follicles, causing hair loss. It used to be just a patchy problem that grew back within six months, however has progressed in the past two years to almost complete baldness. And half an eyebrow.

I have tried many things in pursuit of hair regrowth, including steroid injections, Rogaine, psoriasis ointment, natural oils applied directly to the scalp and finally a chinese acupuncturist/quack. So now I have decided to try diet.

I was wondering if anyone out there in internet-land has heard of the macrobiotic diet being used to treat this type of hair loss? And with what degree of success?

Please keep in mind that this condition is not the same as Androgenic Alopecia, or male/female pattern baldness.

Thanks for the help,
Oddment

Re: Alopecia Areata

Wow, almost 40 views and no answers? Not even a "my hair has been so beautiful and shiny on this diet" or "went on the diet and my male pattern baldness was stopped/reversed/i didn't notice any difference".

Thanks for viewing, I guess?

Re: Alopecia Areata

Oddment,

I am so sorry no one responded - and also sorry I have no knowledge or experience of your condition. I also read the post where you're giving up this diet - I feel badly that your experience hasn't been of value to you - I looked up the disease you posted but couldn't find it in my books - I did find information on hair loss in Cornellia and Herman Aihara's book, Natural Healing from Head to Toe, but I haven't a clue if any of it would apply in your condition. I truly would love to encourage you, but don't know how - don't mean to be a traitor here, Gary, but there are other mb discussion groups with some very knowledgeable people - who will gladly share their experience and knowledge.

I came to this diet because I love the food - steak has no appeal to me at all - and on top of that, I truly believe alot of today's diseases are food related, and I do NOT want to get old and suffer as I see so many are.

I hope the information you need will come to you soon.

Klara

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I am only test-running this diet as one of the many, many possibilities for a hair-growth solution, and not being able to have most of my favorite foods has been exceptionally tough. That and I'm a college student and the amount of time it takes to cook all this stuff (40ish minutes for brown rice and then cleaning/chopping/cooking the vegetables) is just too much some days.

I'm glad it works for some people and will probably take some of the meals I've found (lots on this site ) and alter them to include more protein and less seaweed.

And I'll eat a piece of pizza for you.

Re: Alopecia Areata

I am currently trying a macrobiotic diet to reverse the affects of alopecia areata (about one and a half years now). I have read about people who followed the macrobiotic diet and completely reversed the affects of this disorder. You can e-mail me if you would like updates on my progress (see the e-mail address below). You must know that all of these people who followed macro took about four years or so to completely reverse this disorder. Keep the faith!

Regards,
Justin
