Kidney Stones

Hello! I have been looking into a Macro diet and am very interested. I have been a vegetarian (with lapses of eating dairy and some meat) for about 5 years now. I have a desire to eat the best possible way for my body.
I am also trying to figure out why I get kidney stones. I got my first stone when I was 12 (about 12 years ago) and have had 2 since then. There is no family history of kidney stones and I'm curious as to why I get them. Also, my kidneys hurt sometimes and I think I may have a stone currently. Can soy cause stones? I read that somewhere. Thanks for any comments. Jess

Jessica. The stones are due to the consumptin of dairy and meat and other fats (from oils, nuts, seeds) from your FORMER eating habits and as your body heals itselef the stones are being discharged (loosened and expelled). This is a usual occurrance for people switching over to macrobiotics. There are a number of posts on the topic in both the old and new archives of this forum (somewhere...). They detail how to deal to deal with them using food, liquid and by external means (heat plasters, etc.) I hope this helps.

In peace, Roy

Soda and Kidney Stones

I recently read a doctor's report that soda is one cause of kidney stones. It can corrode your teeth, and a tiny corroded part of your tooth can form into a stone in your kidney. My friend just had passed a stone, and the doctor said "no more soda!"

:-D It's true!

And amazingly I heard that one doctor told a mother not to give milk products during the time they're having ear infections...maybe some of these doctors are getting the good word on natural health remedies....
