grains and nuts/seeds

i have started adding a bit of nuts or seeds to grains to add fat. i find myself getting sleepy after meals and feeling acidic. is there a food-combining principle this goes against?
any suggestions for getting fat in at breakfast to keep me going until lunch? lunch until dinner?
are nuts or seeds eaten best alone??
