Arrow Macrobiotic Analysis of Diet

Hi Roy,

Let me know in detail what you think of all the food I used to eat: : First thing in the morning, I drink a glass of Green Magma (young barley leaves extract), after one hour I prepare a bowl of bran flakes mixed with oatmeal, six pieces of almonds, one walnut and three dates using soya milk instead of cow milk.Immediately after that I take a pill of pure Korean Ginseng root.
For lunch I have a beef or lamb stew with white rice and wholemeal bread.
I also love to eat pasta. Recently I started using wholemeal pasta, with tomato sauce, meat and Mozerella cheese.I take a garlic pill after the meal. I have been doing this for the last 8 years, that is taking garlic pills.
At five pm I eat a bowl of fruits, cherries, peaches, apricots and pears in summer and oranges, apples, tangarines, clemantines in winter.
For dinner (supper) I have dairy products: cheeses and strained yogurts with olive oil and wholemeal bread.I am addicted to bread, any kind of bread.It is very difficult for me to give it up. I don't drink coffee, tea or alcohol.I drink a lot of water between meals
I take all sorts of pills from health shops: vitamin c ( which I have been taking for almost 8 years, kelp. royal Jelly, honey which I took for six month as a treatment for sore throat. I forgot to tell that I have a sweet tooth and if I don't end my meal with a desert I don't feel satisfied.
Roy, you sent me a reply telling me what to eat and not to eat. Your reply very general. For example you asked me not to eat flour. Does this include rice cream? and what about wholemeal bread, if yes why? You didn't mention anything about eating meat, red and white, which I used to eat almost on daily basis. You didn't mention anything about fruit or what to eat for breakfast for example. You didn't say why I shouldn't drink soya milk until I get better.
I am new to Macrobiotics and I need more help from you.
I am not very grateful to you, because you are genuinely trying to help me.

I will answer each of your questions:

RC: First thing upon rising, do NOT eat or drink. Better to first do some form of exercise and work up sweat, then eat, then drink. Drink is last. Also better to drink tea that is hot, unless the Barley grass is put into hot water.
It is better to keep meal small and to slightly alkaline side. So a small bowl of miso soup with sea vegetables would be preferred. The enzymes, salt and primitive vegetables replicates the ancient from where we all came from. So every morning you are replicating evolution. Soya bean is in miso and is aged so is yang as opposed to soy milk which is yin.
The oatmeal is fine on occasion ¡V no problem with dates and almonds since they are probably local from your environment. However a bit yin, so not too. However it is better if you can eat whole grain on some occasion in am as well. Oatmeal and branflakes are like flour products which are milled and loose much energy in the process through oxidation. Good not cow milk. No need for Ginseng root unless they is big yin problem going on. Also better to use whole ginseng root over pill form which again is like processed food with loss of energy. But no big deal. You can continue if it makes you feel happy. OK for men but not so good for women because it is too yang.

RC: Stop all red meats. You should only use this on special occasions, like weddings, holiday, etc. Eating red meats on daily baisis in temperate climate is not a macrobiotic practice. Again, do not eat too much bread products as it is no longer whole and energy gets lost in flour processing. Maybe one or two slices per week!
Same with pasta ¡V not whole. Only once in a while ¡V a few times a week maybe in miso soup broth. No tomato sauce, no meat, no cheese. Dairy food is only used on special occasions for macrobiotics. Dairy food is for baby cow not human. Too much calcium, protein, fat , etc. (what calf needs to grow ¡V then mother cow kicks it away when it grows bigger and it eats grass ¡V a better source for calcium, magnesium, protein, etc). Better to use real garic over pills. Same reason. Garlic is in onion family and grows all over the world, even in the snow here in New England where I live. Sometimes garlic is too strong for some people and you don¡¦t need too much.

RC: Yes, this way too much yin and makes blood cells and tissues too watery. Blood cannot get strong and lungs fill up with too much liquid ¡V cold, rises up (yin). Makes lungs, sinus, ears and eyes inflamed. Yang sex organs weaken. Eat only small amount of fruit a few times a week when weather is HOT. This balanced yin/yang thinking. In winter when it is cold does fruit grow near you? If not, then you don¡¦t eat. Now you can have more fish, stews, baked grains, beans, soups, etc. You have to change style of cooking to match weather and climate. Maybe cook fruit if you really need it in winter. This is macrobiotic way. Balance YIN COLD with YANG HOT.
Fruits are yin (sugary, watery, soft, grow in trees (up) in hot weather¡K OK a little bit in the hot weather, like watermelon, cantaloupe, honey dew, etc, because yin fruit makes balance for yang heat. DO you understand me?

RC: Yes, you will lower your mentality and become very sentimental and slow like a cow if you continue dairy. It is not fit for human beings. You don¡¦t drink your mothers milk, why drink the milk made for a baby cow. You can make cultured soy drink that works like yogurt. The bread is a big problem. Good you don¡¦t drink coffee or alcohol. Maybe there is some hope for you (ha ha ƒº ) !!! I hope no cigarettes or drugs either? Try to keep liquids to a minimum¡X4-6 cups daily (unless the weather is very hot and dry) too much liquid will weaken kidneys. I think mineral water with no bubbles is ok, but not cold. Try to drink warm or hot tea made from local herbs. These are better for you. All the wild animals eat them.

RC: You don¡¦t need pills if you eat the proper foods. Save your money. Most tests show that they are not as effective as whole foods. You don¡¦t need royal jelly or bee products. Too yin. This makes blood sticky, mucus then comes.

RC: Yes, much more study is needed. Please find more macrobiotic books to read and find someone in your area who teaches macrobiotic cooking classes. This will help you greatly in over coming health problems and finding true freedom.
