Roy,
I was thinking about installing a water filter or purification system on my kitchen sink. I do not know if I could afford to do it on the whole house. I know as macrobiotic people we should use the best possible water quality for drinking and cooking. Here in Oregon they add floride to the tap water as well as other Toxic chemicals. Do you think adding some type of purification system is a good idea ? What do you use ? Any recommendations on purification systems ? Thanks, Gustav ![]() |

Hi Gustav. Good idea to use a good water filter if drinking from a public water supply. I'm not up on all the details of which filters are best, etc. Bruce Paine knows this technical stuff and will eventully come by and read this message and (knowing Bruce) he will give you a list of places that sell the best quality filters for this purpose. I live in the woods and my water comes from an artesian well that is constantly moving. I think though there are too many minerals and I may need to invest in a good water filter like my neighbor's have. I will ask them next time they ask me to babysit... Sorry I can't be of more help on this. Maybe some other readers can give a few pointers...
In peace, Roy |

Re: Toxic Water ?
I think water filtration is something everyone should consider. Municipal supplies usually have chlorine, fluoride and hundreds of other contaminants in them.
For people on a tight budget, it is affordable to start with a water filter pitcher or faucet mount. But in the long run, countertop/undersink and whole house are usually cheaper per gallon. Take the cost of the unit and divide by the gallons the filter cartridge is good for. I have been very disappointed in the short filter life of popular filters such as Brita or Pur. Reverse osmosis is not necessary unless you know you have nitrates. Nitrates are common in rural areas. Reverse osmosis also wastes a lot of water. It is just as important to use a shower filter as chemicals are absorbed through the skin pores and hot showers cause chemicals to vaporize, rise and enter through inhaling. Re: Toxic Water ?
We have a reverse osmosis filter because I am allergic to chlorine. I drink and cook with the filtered water. I need to get a filter for the bath since I take at least a thirty minute warm soak nightly. I have very aggressive ostioarthritis. No one can tell my why I have such aggressive OA or a cause. I just read somewhere that fluoride may ccontribute As a child I lived in an area where fluoride occurred naturally in the water. I have strong but yellow teeth. My main concern now is to figure out how can prevent or slow the progression of OA.
Have you heard of any association of minerals in water and OA? Thanks for any suggestions. Sundown |

Re: Toxic Water ?
I have read that inorganic calcium deposits can contribute to OA, this could come from hard water or enriched foods, some say detoxing with distilled water works to bind with inorganic minerals and pull them out. Also, a low pH/acidic blood will pull cal/mag out of the bones to raise pH which can cause bone spurs , OA , osteoporosis.
