Macrobiotic Counselors

Hello All,
After years of toughing it out on my own and being frustrated by some of the available online forums I have decided to seek out an accesable counselor to help me refine my macro diet and lifestyle. I live in the midwest and am not wealthy so I can't afford a lot of money. If anyone knows of someone living in Ann Arbor,Michigan that is available and who is a good counselor/advisor please let me know. I am a Leukemia patient and I have been Macro for about five years now. If you need additional information please let me know.

Thank You

Gregory

Hi Gregory.

The only counselor I have lsited in my Macro Health & Directory
Guide for that area is Stephen Brink: 810 544-2022. His is listed also as an acupuncturist which would also be a helpfuf modality to treatment of leukemia. As an acupuncturist he most likely
dispenses Chinese herbal medicine. You may want to ask him for the herbal mixture called Danggui Longhui Wan which is used in the treatment of leukemia.

Danggui Longhui Wan is a mixture of 11 traditional herbs that includes Indigo naturalis (Qing Dai) -- a blue powder isolated from the leaves that contains the antileukemic component, indirubin.

In clinical trials indirubin was used to treat chronic myelocytic leukemia (CML) and in 26 percent of 314 patients, 26 percent of patients showed complete remission and 33 percent showed partial remission. Toxicity was low and side effects were minimal compared to the busulfan which increaes susceptibility to infection and can cause blood problems.

"Indirubin works to stop the uncontroled growth of tumor cells by inactivating enzymes called cyclin-dependent kinasis (CDKs). These enzymes regulate cell division. In non-cancerous cells these enzymes normall turn off at an appropriate time, In cancerous cellls they stay activated and the cells keep dividing uncontrollably. Indirubin can bin to CDK's, block their activity, and halt the wild cell division" according to Jean Barilla, MS -- one of the nation's foremost medical and nutrition experts. See also
Hoessel, R., Leclerc, S., Endicottt, J.A., et al. in Nature Cell Biology 1(1):60-67, May 1999, articled is titled "Indirubin, the active constituent of a Chinese antileukeaemia medicine, inhibits cyclindependent kinases".

I think, along with a customized macro diet the couse of acupuncture and Chinese herbs would be a good road to investigate for your health problem. As a cancer patient
I sympathize with your quest and anxieties. My own research is leading in a similar direction that points to a deficency of the immune system and more directly with the inability to create
enough of the enzymes angiostatin and endostatin to prevent tumor growth and vesseling. I will begin immunotherapy (along with macrobiotics) next month for 6 weeks. I am hopeful that the bacertium BCG used to activate the immune response to my bladder will be strong enough to arrest the cancer cells in that location. Good luck my friend. I know you have worked hard
up to this point.

I hope this helps.

In peace, Roy
