Blood Quality on Macro Diet

HELP!

I've been a on a marco diet for over two years. Loved it, but was not too "yang" in my approach; i.e. there were no fasts, no #7 diets, just sensibly centered and season-conscious cooking. There was not much discharge either, mainly due to fairly healthy diet prior to getting on marco. I felt elated and energetic and even managed to get rid of seasonal allergies that plagued me since my early teenage years.

Recently I began to experience fatigue and shortness of breath. Blood test revealed decreasing counts of both RED & WHITE blood cells for no apparent medical reason. My physician suggested taking iron supplements, but that can hardly help my low white blood count.

Is this problem common in the macro community? Are there any marcobiotic remedies that may help to normalize blood quality?

Presently fatigued,

Dina

Re: Blood Quality on Macro Diet

Hi Dina .. I don't want to scare you but I know low rbc count could mean anemia and low wbc count could mean AIDs or some type of cancer, though they probably checked for it when they told you. you might also have a widespread infection though I believe you'd know.

Of course I think you should ask your doctor if this is anything to worry about. If your blood cell count is marginally low it may not be anything to worry about. If you feel OK, then it may be alright. Of course it never hurts to get a second or third opinion if you're worried.

I hear spinach and lentils and beets are great for iron... good luck!

Re: Blood Quality on Macro Diet

Curious,

Thank you for you suggestions, although none of them apply except for a clear case of anemia. I was just hoping to find out if that is common among macro folks and how they deal with it. I know that B12 vitamine deficiency is directly linked to macro diet and is also an underlying cause of pernicious anemia. But my case is not pernicious. I got a second opinion but it was hardly any different from the original. Generally I am perceived as a very healthy individual, but I won't running marathons any time soon.

Best,

Dina
