Hi there fellow Oz-macros,

I think there is more going on in Australia than appears. I live in Sydney, which is lucky i guess, as there are quite a few places here that sell macrobiotic food and products. A woman called Leah Zinn has just moved here from Israel and is starting macro classes soon. I've sort of signed up, but haven't heard from her in a little while....need to get on to that actually.

A while ago there were a few of us (Mia, Ilanit....can't remember who else) talking about organising some sort of macrobiotic meeting/camp/gathering of some kind. I'm not sure what happened - I guess everyone got busy. I think it would be amazing to organise something like that - does anyone else think so? Where would we hold it? It's kind of a big country, but if we planned a long way ahead people could get cheap flights.

Also Kaz, I think your best help, aside from finding a person who knows more than you do about being macro, is in books. There are so many great texts and cookbooks out there. I use The Hip Chick's Guide to Macrobiotics a lot, and also Nourish, by Holly Davies. This site is great for advice too.

Are you just getting started Kaz? What is your story?

Jessie Mo, are you also in Adelaide?

Ciara

Re: macro help Australia

yes - there are more and more macro people springing out of the woodwork in australia!

mt friend in WA has launched her website

http://www.greatlifecookingschool.com.au/

we had a great pot luck here in Melbourne in early December and plan more this year.

MacroWholefoods opened its first spectactular store in Richmond with one set to open in Feb not far from me - yippeeee! How does it get any better than that?!

I just read on the MAcrolovers of JErusalmem yahoo group *Check out the link above) that a macro member was over here and was teaching a yoga course on an eco farm - McLeod's on an island off the coast of victoria. I had heard of it before and it sounds amazing!!!

I think it would be a perfect spot.

also my macro counselling course teacher, David Briscoe
was talking about teaching in australia some time! HE said throw another Seitan Shrimp on the barbie! LOL

Re: macro help Australia

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the responses. As I said I live in Adelaide and have never been able to find a fellow Macro. Some of my girlfriends dabble but that is all. I have however been lucky to find most Macro products after loads of searching. Ciara that course sounds great is there anything by correspondence? I also use Hip Chicks Guide to Macrobiotics which I found fantastic. Also if anyone in Australia organizes a Macrobiotic retreat I would love to come. Keep me posted.

Thanks Kaz

Leah I'm so glad to hear that you are getting going. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!! My diet has been a bit lax over Christmas, so I need some motivation to get back on track, cooking lessons would do the trick!

Kaz, if I ever run into enough macro people to form a community I'd definitely consider organising a retreat or camp of some kind. my email is kittin@cheerful.com feel free to drop me a line if you want to talk about your cooking or need any macro support (I'm not an expert by anyone's standard, only a beginner, but I'd be happy to help however I can)

Happy New Year to everyone, especially the aussie macro team!

Ciara

Re: macro help Australia

Hi Ciara, Iilanit and everybody eles. It is good to see a bit of chatting action again!
I am still very keen on organising a some sort of cook up or gathering with a guest speaker or similar. Don't mind if it is in Victoria or where ever. I think it is just a matter of setting a date and a location, so we can start planning it, and who knows, if it works well we'll do it again somewhere eles in Australia maybe??!!.

I could see us meeting up in a house where we can cook and have a macro teacher/cook that can take us through a few new dishes, we'll cook and then enjoy eachother's company and can share experiences. It doesn't have to be a big thing, just meeting up would be unreal!!

Also, Kaz from Adelaideand Ciara from Sydney, I spend a bit of time travelling around Australia and overnight both in Adelide and Sydney a few times a month with work. If you want to maybe meet up for a cuppa or lunch one day feel free to call me. I would also love to actually meet and chat with somebody in person. Here is my home email address miacorr@bigpond.com

Re: macro help Australia

To all of you "down under"

Meeting up is VERY REAL - it's so good to have in person contact with other mb people - I wish all of you great successes in getting together.

And for those who can't, sure hope I "meet" you on the chat, almost 13 hours from now - now this countdown is more meaningful for me than the New Year's one - I'm getting excited. A word about chats, it's great for those who think on their feet (the more balanced of us???) - I sometimes take my time when writing posts - so if any of you are truly concerned with the topic - does mb help cancer and other diseases, it'd be great to formulate your questions now to post in another 13 hours (it took me 5 minutes just to think out the above!!)

Klara
