A.,
Check out Simply Natural Recipe Index and Macro Life's Recipe Index. Of course you will find many more recipes and how to cook them in the various macrobiotic cookbooks at Cybermacro's Simply Natural Foods. And don't forget the Internet's best source of natural foods, kitchenware, and vitamins, Simply Natural, Natural Foods. Thank you, very much. _||_ Bruce Paine |

This is a favorite of my kids, and great if you need a sweet fix, but not an everyday food. I also use all organic ingredients.
Rice pudding: 6 cups soy/rice milk plain or vanilla is fine (Eden is great...try their Eden blend which is rice and soy milk) 1/3 c. brown rice syrup 2 cups cooked short grain brown rice (I like to use 1 1/2c brown and 1/2c sweet brown rice) 1/4 raisins/other dried fruits if you can eat them 2 TB vanilla 1/2 tsp cinnamon Combine 4c. milk and syrup, cover and bring to a simmer over moderate heat. stir in rice and raisins, reduce heat to low and simmer partially covered, stirring frequently to prevent sticking, about 40-45 mins, or until think and creamy. Add remianing 2 cups of milk and cook for 15-20 more mins. remove from heat and stir in vanilla. pour into a bowl and let cool for 15-20 mins. sprinkle with cinna mon and cover with plastic wrap and chill for ~an hour. It will thicken as it cools I get asked to make this at least once a month. Adapted from Shelly Null's "Healthy cooking for kids". Hope that you like it. Happy eating! Leenie |

Re: Recipe Challenge ... these ingrediants only
Thanks for the recipe. I tried it yesterday... it was good but i'm not sure I made it correctly. It was not really creamy... it was just rice but sweet. I might have cooked it too long. I will try it again. I'm not able to eat raisins yet so I made it without the raisins.
Thanks again for your reply. |

Re: Recipe Challenge ... these ingrediants only
Sorry to hear that it didn't thicken up enough. I occasionally add a little Teff or Amaranth the last 30 mins of cooking for added texture (a couple TBSP). Teff gives it an almost carob/chocolate hint, not to mention boosting the iron content.
I hope that you were able to find some recipes to your liking from Bruce's suggestions. There are also some great recipes in "Cooking the Whole Foods Way" by Christina Pirello. She's a little unconventional (uses chocolate and other 'avoid' foods in some of her recipes) but I have yet to make something from her book I didn't like. Gratitude, grains and gomasio, Leenie |

Re: Recipe Challenge ... these ingrediants only
Actually the problem I had was that it was too "thick" and not creamy at all. I think I might have over cooked it.
Thanks for the suggestion Amanda |
