Hi all.
I'm looking to get some people together to do a macro cooking class or series of them, and perhaps a natural foods tour. Bita

Re: Macrobiotic cooking classes in New York
I am interested in participating in cooking classes in New York. I live in Michigan and plan on visiting New York for the month of April. I could also visit at other times depending on what type of classes you are thinking of. I am also interested in attending an existing cooking school in macrobiotic cooking in New York would you know of any programs? Sue O |

Re: Macrobiotic cooking classes and food tours in New York
Hi Sue,
I am teaching a macrobiotic cooking class in New York City on Wednesday, March 9th at 6:30 p.m. For more info and the menu on the class go to: www.naturalgourmetschool.com. As far as I know, there are no schools in New York City that are primarily macrobiotic. There are schools in other states and cities that are purely macro, such as Phildelphia and Boston. The Natural Gourmet School offers public classes (like the ones I teach), and a chef's training program. The school has its roots and philosophies in macrobiotics, but not all the classes taught are macro. Bita

Re: Macrobiotic cooking classes and food tours in New York
Hi Bita,
I live in NJ but work in Manhattan on Tuesdays and Thursdays (east side in the 20s) and would love to attend a macrobiotic cooking class. Please keep me posted on classes you are offering in the future. Thanks, Karen |

Re: Macrobiotic cooking classes and food tours in New York
Hi Karen,
I'm looking to get a bunch of individuals together for perhaps a series of macro cooking classes. Such class themes could be: the basics, sushi, soups and stews, main dish salads, sea vegetables, seafood, and desserts. Thanks, Bita

What a fabulous idea! If I'm in NYC for your March class, I hope to join you. Please tell me what a "natural foods" tour might include. I've been to The Natural Gourmet Cooking School's Friday night dinners - it might be very interesting to have one that is solely "macrobiotic.' The macrobiotic diet research study (at Columbia University's Rosenthal Center from Complementary and Alternate Medicine) in which I participated, took our entire class to Annemarie Colbin's school for dinner after Annemarie gave us all a lecture during one of our workshop's at Columbia. The reserach study is still in progress but they are no longer recruiting. http://rosenthal.hs.columbia.edu/macrobio.html I believe your idea for "continuing education" classes in macrobiotics and a "natural foods" tour would help all the participants in Columbia's program -- perhaps you could contact them and let them know that these services are available.

Bita,
I would be first in line for a macro dessert class! I'd even gladly take the LIRR to your neck of the woods for the class! Please keep us posted. Best wishes, Noele |

Re: Macrobiotic cooking classes and food tours in New York
Hi Bita,
I'm also a Columbia alumna. There's a directory search on Columbia's homepage (look at the top right of the screen.) You can find contact info for Columbia students and instructors there. You can find their email addresses there. (I didn't want to post them online!) I did a quick search: below is info for Dr. Contento, who was a principal investigator: Isobel R. Contento Mary Swartz Rose Professor of Nutrition and Education Health & Behavior Studies, Teachers College TC BOX 137 New York NY 10027 212-678-3949 Dr. Blaner and Dr. Giardina were co-investigators: William S.
