Umeboshi

Is it really that different from plums or apricots we find normally here in North America? After a thorough search throughout Edmonton I just can't get umeboshi here, and the online sites don't ship to Canada without an outrageous cost. (No way.) What if I just learned to pickle fresh plums and apricots (both are available here in warmer weather) and then also use that vinegar for cooking. I mean, essentially that's what the ume vinegar is, right?

Re: Umeboshi

I am also finding it hard to find these precious little pickled plums where I am and my mother taught me to always have some around, as they are very powerful medicine! They even saved my life once when I was younger and stupid and taking things I shouldn't have been taking, the Yang concentration of the Plum countered the Yin of the drugs I was overdosing on (I wised up and now avoid artificial drugs as much as possible- I prefer herbal medicines to chemical ones) after I ate 12 or 13 plums in a row (thats a lot of Yang to balance a lot of Yin).

If anyone knows how I can get some of these here in Germany, I would be so happy!

ThanX,
Jozen-Bo

Post Re: Umeboshi

Allison,

I take it that Planet Organic neither carries umeboshi plums nor will order them.

Earth's General Store, my guess is not a food store

Have you been to Homegrown Foods in Stoney Plain?

They seem to be familiar with umeboshi products!

Jozen-Bo,

Ich bin traurig, aber ich spreche nicht Deutsches, also, nach den Speichern ist zu suchen, die umeboshi in Deutschland verkaufen, sehr schwierig, damit ich tue! (Translated from English to German by Babelfish using Watson: "I'm sorry but I don't speak German, so searching for stores selling umeboshi in Germany is very difficult for me to do!")

But there are 22 health food stores listed in Berlin at Happy Cow's Restaurant and Health Food store guide and 204 total listings there for all of Germany

Here's a number of links for Germany at The Macrobiotic Guide (UK):

Natural´Mente-Makrobiotik in Berlin Makrobiotik in Berlin
Gesund in Hamburg Makrobiotik für alle e.V. Marion Menger
www.das-grosse-leben.de Das Grosse Leben Makrobiotik Online
Herzlich Willkommen beim Makrobiotik-Versand Wiebke Hohrenk Makrobiotik Online
Homepage von Urlaub und Ferien mit Makrobiotik - Makrobiotik-Ferien
Sofortkredit online
www.provita-naturkost.de provita-naturkos foods
reisball.de Fröhlicher Reisball Naturkost Makrobiotik
ESI Deutschland – Willkommen Shiatsu
ECOCERT: contrôle de produits - certification Eco-Cert, Organic

Maybe one of these locations carries umeboshi or could tell you where to find them in your locale!

O.K.?

Danke, sehr viel. ("Thank you, very much.)

Re: Umeboshi

I don't go to Stoney Plain, I seem to get a traffic ticket every time I go there. :/ They'll get you for just a few miles over the limit, I think its their source of income in that town.
