Cool MacroGawdess

Hello, my name is Shauna and I am a newbie interested in learning about and transitioning to a more macro focused diet. I bought a copy of "Macrobiotic Diet" by Michio and Aveline Kushi and am about halfway through it.

A little background on me...

I am a full time worker and college student. I think my biggest concern about this way of eating is time constraints. I am sure with some mindful effort, I can make it livable.

I am transitioning off a 2 year low carb diet, so sugar and flour is already excluded from my diet. This should be easy right? Not so fast...I think the big thing is getting rid of my eggs, which are the current cornerstone of my eating plan.

I look forward to the wisdom you folks can share about this way of life!

Blessings,

Shauna

I am not sure what you could eat to cure the plague. Perhaps I can intervene.
It worked your cured---no more plague.

I saw your post the other day and the fact that you are a full-time working student gave me flash backs that were not the most pleasant memories of when I began the diet as a working student but also facing conscription into the Vietnam incident.

You seem already moving in a good direction. The elimination of flour and sugar is a large step. Eggs are a vast improvement over beef and pork. Perhaps balancing your eggs with lots of greens and other vegetables and very limited more-yang fruits will fit into your time constraints and be workable allowing your experience to grow. From my perspective your starting at a very plausible place. The biggest problem people run into is making drastic and sudden changes. Doing so can cloud one's reference points and it is very easy to get lost and out of control. Patience is a virtue that is particularly relevant to eating this food. No brass bands here---just quite subtle nowness.

Think about yin/yang, what it is, how it works and why it is relevant. Sense the nature of the foods you eat, the people you relate to and all the things you see. The more you grasp the yin/yang of things the better this food will serve you. To me there is nothing more interesting and exciting than witnessing this yin/yang ballet.

Having cured your plague will look good on my resume-----good fortune and fun,

Manymoons

Re: MacroGawdess

Manymoons,

So besides curing plagues, what other magic can you conjure up??!!!

Shauna,

How do you presently prepare your eggs? Can you mix it more and more with vegetables, rice?? Egg fu yung (or egg fu yang??), fried rice, hard boiled crumbled up in salad, cooked into dessert puddings, cakes??? Truth is just keep increasing the mb foods and magically !!!!! the other foods will diminish. Really.

Especially since you are using the secret ingredient: mindful effort.

Think I posted this somewhere but don't remember where: for time constraints, cook your grains and beans so they'll last for two days, and maybe alternatively, one day the whole grain, the next day the bean, then all you need is to quickly boil up some great vegetables - although big chunks fits winter, still you can save some time by not cutting tiny pieces - later when you get the hang of it, you can concentrate more how the size fits the yin/yang of it all. Anyway, as you get more proficient, the cutting will go quicker. Also if you'd like, place your vegetables over the grain or bean you are warming up, so they'll cook as the other dish warms up.

And enjoy!!!!!

Klara

Re: MacroGawdess

YAY! Someone responded!

I've been dying to talk about Macro..You are so right. My non-macro foods have begun to disappear. All that is left right now is diet soda (basically finishing what I have), chocolate (I just quit smoking), and eggs. I went from eating three eggs each morning, to eating one. I am also finding that with Macro, I eat a whole lot less. Miso Soup and the blend of short grain rice/adzuki beans fills me right up!! Its amazing how natural carbs, dont make me feel hungover.

Klara

I am no magician--just a person dealing with a chosen path.

Gawdess Shauna

How are you doing? Are you finding time to do what you need? I am interested to know more of what you would like to discuss.
