Well, I have to say I’m somewhat amused that everyone else is at a loss to my plight as I am.
I would like to introduce myself a little more and see if maybe this cyber-community can help guide and support me in my macrobiotic adventure. I have been studying different methods of eating and health maintenance for the majority of my life. My mother, having been afflicted with Bellspalsy, first altered our view of what one should eat by stumbling into Dr. Norman Walker’s Fresh Fruits and Vegetables book. Our kitchen quickly had a top-notch juicer and strongly smelled often of cabbage and carrot. She improved some but kept drifting from one book to another. Being a fan of both Battlestar Galactica and The A-Team, she rushed off to buy Confessions of a Kamikaze Cowboy by Dirk Benedict when it was released(I think she had a crush on him). She preached the teachings from this book but didn’t practice them. So I was aware of some of the principles for much of my life. I started on the road of mb when I was nineteen, but was limited due to the fact that my meals were included with my rent. Next I served a mission for my church, which again made it so I ate what I was given. Then I worked as a hiker with a youth wilderness rehabilitation program where we ate the same survival rations the youth did. Though I’ve been studying and wanting to do this for years, this is the first time I have really been able to do so. I graduated from massage school in ’03, where I was able to study western traditional massage, as well as Shiatsu and Acupressure and European modalities. I also studied for a time as a Midwifery apprentice. So my view of how to care for myself and others is broader than most. With my Hormone Intolerance, which is a unique experience in and of itself, my body reacts, at times, like I’m diabetic (I am not, my BS levels are always between 70-80). When I eat brown rice I want to go take a nap. If I don’t eat a certain level of protein, again I am fatigued. I am a little frustrated with how to get balanced when I am so far off, or even the best way to ease myself into this life. What do I remove first from my diet? Or which food should I add first? My books include: Confession of a Kamikaze Cowboy Glow Your Face Never Lies The Macrobiotic Way Changing Seasons Love, Eric Macrobiotic Home Remedies Diet for a Strong Heart I also have Staying Healthy with the Seasons, which was one of my textbooks. With my previous post and this appendage I hope you feel you’ve gotten to know me a little better. This is me and a small part of my story. I’m sure it is going to be a pleasure to get to know all of you. Thanks for starting and maintaining the site. GW |

GlowingWillow,
Welcome to Cybemacro Discussion Forum! GlowingWillow, how did you come to have that name? Please use my SuperList of Directories to find anything you need from the greater macrobiotic community. Here are two webpages that apply to macrobiotics in Utah brought to us by Sheldon and Ginat Rice of The Rice House: From their Macrobiotics Research Project (2000-20002): Mb Study Areas in Utah: Salt Lake City Mb Practitioners in Salt Lake City Though I have been involved in the macrobiotic community a very long time, I am not a macrobiotic professional and I encourage you to find one to give you the specific instructions that you need for your specific and possibly delicate situation. Thank you, very much. Bruce Paine |
