And I"m glad you posted your recipe, as by now I no longer follow a recipe for my carrot/beet sauce - I use the throw in method and it always comes out delicious. At the beginning of my mb days I used to use similar herbs as I used to in regular tomato sauce, also used to add garlic and mushrooms. That was then. I no longer use the herbs, garlic or mushrooms and find adding ume paste and miso at the end gives my sauce the wonderful umph it needs. But it's good that new people to mb see that variations exist, and that one should experiment and see what they like. I never thought of using sweet potatoes. When I started mb, sweet potatoes was a no-no, then one day it got an ok - all this can get rather confusing for those who are new - just know you evolve, the diet evolves, all life evolves. Sorry for the repetition for those who are tired of talking about pressure cookers, but I was taught grains and beans are about all that's pressure cooked. Vegetables are too yin. So I've never pressure cooked vegetables. Just seems too strong an energy for vegetables, no??

I truly apologize for the confusion - I am only passing on what I have learned over the years - that vegetables are lighter in energy, not needing pressure cooking. Again, I am not a teacher and can't explain it. Perhaps do an experiment and try it both ways and see if it makes a difference to you. But since you do have your new pressure cooker, try something like garbanzo beans or black soybeans - which just can never get the same results by boiling. Also brown rice may turn out different, but don't be disappointed in the more sticky result. I have no idea how to explain energy gained by how one cooks - I hope you will understand from just going through the practice of mb, or perhaps a great teacher will cross your path, or perhaps someone more able to explain will post to you. In any case, the carrot/beet/onion sauce can also be simmered, blended and I hope you find an amazing substitute for tomato sauces. Klara |

Yes, it sounds delicious. OK, I see what you're saying. I'm going to try some brown rice tonight. I read something interesting in the book for the pc...that I shouldn't use barley in it as it gets too foamy and will block the value. I did it in my old pc with no problem.

You could try to mix - maybe 1 cup rice with 1/4 cup barley (or more rice if you like) - that won't get too foamy and is delicious. What size pc did you get??

I GET that you love raw foods - I highly advise you to find a site with others who share your love and please not try to convert those of us here who understand that macrobiotics is another way entirely of looking at everything in life. I do not want to get roped into a discussion of the difference, especially since I do not feel you really want to know about macrobiotics and especially since I'm not interested in trying to convince you. Please go share your enthusiasm on a different site - I'm sure there are plentry of raw food-ists on the computer. Forgive me Gary if I've overstepped my place here - I am not the moderator, but do so enjoy sharing and reading about macrobiotics - I know, I can learn to just ignore it, but my time as well as those who are on the site need to be respected, so please Organic Chat, do not post anymore about raw foods.
