I accept all help, but I would most appreciate it if I got feedback from someone who is a professional in, or at least very well acquainted with digestive health and/or food.
Today I had the worst stomach-ache ever. My mom graduated Med school (though she is a DC, not an MD), and for a few minutes, I was truly afraid that I had appendicitis. You might wonder why this is the first thing I thought of; the fact is, I don't eat healthy and I know it. I just can't conquer my desire for bad food. There are healthy things that I like, but if they're not offered to me, chances are I won't eat them. My favorite meals are Top Ramen, fries, TV dinners and the like. I know I should eat healthier but when I'm hungry... if it's there, I'll eat it. I just can't help it. In any case, that's a somewhat separate problem. What I really want to know is what I can/should eat right now that will not cause me more pain, and what I should eat in the future to stop it from happening again. Thanks. Re: Treating Upset Stomach, and Stomach Health for the Future?
grint,
I know you requested a professional, but this is something so basic in mb that is often used in dealing with the after effects of eating wrong foods: a kuzu/ume drink. Are you at all into mb? do you know anything about it? If not these products may be strange to you and you will need to go to a health food store (or better, order them through the shop on this site). Take 1 teaspoon of kuzu to 1 cup of cold water and dissolve it very very well - do not cook it til it is throughly dissolved or it won't work. Once dissolved, add a half an umeboshi plum (or 1/2 tsp umeboshi paste) and mix, bring to a boil, then simmer. When it becomes thick and transparent (same as what corn starch does, but kuzu is healing), add a couple drops of soy sauce and taste to see if needs more umeboshi or soy sauce. Of course, if you know about macrobiotics, you might know that the whole system is to create a balanced healthy body and soul, and that's by choosing good foods which nurture you. Band aid healing is not what macrobiotics is really about, but we're all human and goof up, and are blessed to have umeboshi and kuzu. However, if your situation is indeed something more serious, as you suggested appendicitis, or a myriad of other conditions, then you really need to be seen by a mb counselor who can give you a diagnosis based on many factors, which hardly can be done in this forum. I wish you well, and hopefully better eating. I understand totally about eating foods that aren't the best for you - you can help it - you need alot of motivation, understanding, and best of all, good quality food around. Klara |
