Question - High Blood Pressure

Hello Everyone,

I am just beginning the macrobiotic lifestyle and was wondering if anyone has been able to lower their blood pressure. I am currently on medication for it, not too overweight (I could lose some) and young (31).

Any encouragement/tips would be appreciated!

Sunrise

Re: Question - High Blood Pressure

Hi Sunrise,

Don't get too excited - I'm not the one who could share an answer with you - just felt so badly that there were no responses (yet, still could be). But since you are new to macrobiotics, I just wanted to encourage you - although alot of people may see mb as a way to cure this or that, and counselors or books may give specific advice as this is good for such and such, I don't see it that way. I see the entire adventure, including attitudes toward life, and change of behavior, as a way of getting into a balanced place - and from that balance comes healing of all kinds. How disease expresses itself or how a person comes to balance is totally individual - I know it feels reassuring when someone is going through the same thing and has a good ending, but your story is always somewhat different from others - your background, your lifestyle, your belief system, and so on.

But I'm sure you'd still love to know of other's successes - if you go to links in this site, you'll find other mb groups where you might get a response - all groups, like all individuals, seem to go through change - so some might be active and then quiet - right now I'm enjoying Simon Brown's group at yahoo groups called moderndaymacrobiotics, the same name as his book, which you can get from the shop here (if you're in the States) - http://www.simply-natural.biz/modern-day- where you can read more abuot the book and about Simon. His discussion group is at macrobiotics.phphttp://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/moderndaymacrobiotics/messages. Take a peak and see if it appeals to you. Simon shares freely his knowledge and his human warmth. (if the addresses don't work it's because I'm just starting to get more technical - let me know if you have problems)

Hope your own experience will soon give you the answer you are seeking and you'll find you won't be needing to take medication anymore.

Klara

Re: Question - High Blood Pressure

Hi Klara,

Thank you for your kind response. I will definitely look into the links that you provided. How long have you been practicing macrobiotics? Have you noticed any significant changes?

Best,
Sunrise

Re: Question - High Blood Pressure

Hello Sunrise,

I've been at it 12 years - coming out of a vegetarian diet (fit for life). I didn't go into mb from any serious condition, so it's a bit harder to say exactly what has changed. And even after 12 years, I feel I still have a far way to go - but it is nice here, I can look back and see where I've been - and don't worry so much about where I need to go - I feel better when I eat right, but realize I'm human and change comes slowly, but I don't mind. Remember, the tortoise won the race!!!!

Re: Question - High Blood Pressure

Hi Sunrise
I was recently removed from my high blood pressure meds after simply adding miso soup ( kombu, shiitake, carrots, scallions, maitake, tofu) to my diet.
I usually have been having that twice a day or oat milk made with yaemon miso (any unpasteurized mitoku miso will do).
After being on this for 2 months, I was able to stop my meds. I am overwieght and 56 years old so I wanted to do something about it now.
I also lost 7 pounds in those two months.
Talk about a Win Win situation!
Good luck, I think going entirely macrobiotic would be great, I am just doing it gradually!

Question - High Blood Pressure

Hi friends, one of my friends has high blood pressure and he is just 32 years old. He does not have a problem with his physical fitness because he have well-built his body by years of body building. Recently doctor prescribed him for some medicines which are too much costly and it is almost impossible for him to manage those medicines. Is there any suggestion for the problem which would be comparably cheaper and more effective?

You can try balancing your diet...I mean your friends diet...with a MB lifestyle.
I always had HBP as well as being anemic. after a cpl of years on a MB diet/lifestyle I asked my doc to take me off the meds inthe right way. A few months later I went to be rechecked.
All my levels were normal...for the first time in my life. I won't say that MB did it but all I will say if it didn't than its sure a huge coincidence.
It takes a lot of commitment to change your diet/lifestyle and if he's not really "into it" than I really can't add much more than saying stay away from sodium and do plenty of cardio....fwtw..didn't help me much.
