weight loss

Hello!

I was wondering if you guys lost any weight when you "switched" to MB. Weight loss is not my primary "goal", I'm doing this because it feels right, but I wouldn't mind losing a pound or two http://www.cybermacro.com/forum/imag.../flowerred.gif

Thanks and be well

Re: weight loss

there's lots of way to

"switch" to MB

many people do lose weight

wish I were one of them

funny, that's one of the complaints of those who do mb, people tell them they're too skinny, but they feel great

but it is possible to 1) overeat 2) not chew the food well enough 3) have too much sweets 3) have too much grains or beans and not enough vegetables 4) eat too late at night 5) not exercise enough

but if you're coming off a SAD diet and changing your diet drastically, you may indeed see some weight loss. But if you don't lose weight, keep in mind the above 5 points

ah, I forgot the last and most important point, still be eating other kinds of foods - alot of us do that, guess it's a matter of just how much??

my personal nemesis has been eating at night and being organized in my eating. As I get more organized and have balanced meals, the eating at night diminishes. Also not crazy over exercising

but don't let the issue of weight loss discourage you - it really is a wonderful way of eating.

Klara

Re: weight loss

Thank you, Klara!

Which other kinds of foods do you eat? My weak point are tomatoes and bread (but I'm planning to learn to make non-yeast bread...).

I eat late at night, too... My life as a student is full of surprises, so sometimes I don't have time to eat sooner.

Well, I'm not letting it discourage me

Thanks again!

Re: weight loss

enjambent22,

How's it been going???

I had a dilemna how to answer your last post - I remember many many years comparing how I eat to how someone else eats, in hopes of finding things in common, and most especially of solving challenges.

It's taken me quite a while to realize that doesn't help me. I even began a weekly support group thinking I could get help from others, but even after three years of this group, I wasn't getting what I was trying to.

Macrobiotics is quite a myesterious trip - so you want to get as much help from others as possible, yet on the other hand, it truly is a solo adventure.

Whatever the other foods are that you eat now, is part of your solo adventure. Telling you what I eat won't make any difference.

But in spite of all that, there are things one can learn from those who are more experienced. I with others have had that privilege in Simon Brown's discussion group, of which there was a wonderful discussion on losing weight, which ironically started when the wife of someone who wanted to gain weight began the discussion:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group...s/message/1132

I encourage you to join the discussion group and look up the above message, which will have all the discussion replies in the same place.

Basically Simon advised me personally to eat only whole grains, none that have been processed (bread, crackers, noodles, etc) or none that have been cracked, split, etc (oatmeal, couscous, bulghur) - I know this may sound difficult for someone who is short on time and wants more immediately ready food - but it's been a great challenge for me. I found I was eating much better. Also he encourages using much more vegetables. Both ideas were good for me.

Then again, each person's situation is individual - so you have to look at lots of factors. Come join us at the discussion, maybe you'll get some good ideas.

Re: weight loss

I got on the Macrobiotics train in late September and have lost 10 lbs, which is nice. However I do sometimes get really off balance and go after sugary things, which makes me gain 1-2 lbs. (Yesterday was such a day, I'm having a rice and veggies day as penance.) I think its that you'll get to your lean weight if you stick to it well and don't eat the foods that obviously were making you fat before. Weight loss is all about what you put in your mouth. This is why those diets where you can still eat ice cream or cookies never ever worked for me.

After my first month I started experimenting to really see how these foods I used to eat would affect me after having been cleaned out. A pint of Ben and Jerry's kept me awake for days and gave me 3 lbs. Not fun. Had a few slices of pizza for dinner one night to compare the feel of white flour to the whole grains, and it served as a reminder that No really, Don't Eat White Flour!! :d (Couldn't go for two flippin days )
