Completely new...please help

Can anyone tell me where to start?
I have been looking for a complete lifestyle change, and everything I have heard, and researched, pointed me to a microbiotic style of living. Does anyone know of any websites, or books that they know of to let me know the exact details, of what I am getting into?
any help would be appreciated....
new guy!

Re: Completely new...please help

emma,

for someone new, you got to the great sources. Good for you!!!

I read all your different posts, wish I were alot more knowledgeable for your specific questions. The good points going for you is you find mb easy and you love your job. The more joy you have in life, the easier you make it for your body to be healthy. For the pressure you feel, are you familiar with sweet vegetable drink? It's purpose is manifold, one of them to "yinnize" - pressure is quite yang, and you want something soft, yin, to balance that. Take 1/4 cup of each of the following vegetables, cut very small: Onions, Winter Squash (doesn't matter which, the sweeter the better), Carrots and Cabbage. Simmer with 4 cups of water for a half hour and drain. NO SALT. Drink about 1/2 cup warmed up mid-morning (around 10) and mid-afternoon (around 4) - keep rest of SVD (sweet vegetable drink) refrigerated and it should keep 2 - 3 days. Hope this helps a little. (btw, don't expect a super sweet drink - if you have very sensitive taste buds, you may discern the sweetness. But if you are new to all this, just trust this will help, don't worry if it just tastes like warm water right now) (or you could add more vegetables or less water til your taste buds start changing)

Re: Completely new...please help

Emma and to everyone who is new, or even relatively new,

Macrobiotics doesn't quite work the way the rest of Western medicine works - as far as I know there aren't too many INSTANT cures. Some remedies really are quite amazing, but the crux of this way of life is to achieve balance, first with diet and then with other things in your life, which you become more aware of as you go further into the practice. And it does take time, more time for those whose conditions have been with them for longer, more time for those whose conditions are deeper in the body, and more time for those who have constitutions (that which you were given at birth from your parents) that are not strong. So yes, definitely enjoy the SVD, but continue trying to find out about your specific condition and which foods benefit it the most. This is a lifetime practice, and as described an "art," meaning no automatic brainless pills, but constant observing yourself and seeing how you are at the moment and fine turning always - as nothing is constant, you and your body are always changing, so you need to also change accordingly.

A counselor with his/her experience can help sometimes to jump start - not everyone has to reinvent the wheel - but in the end you really do have to do the work (figuring things out) by observing and developing your intuition.

Hope that doesn't discourage you - but at the beginning just try to eat more and more the mb way. Chew. Laugh. Breathe. Enjoy.

Best of luck
Klara
