Delightful reading

Gary,

I didn't see where there was a place to post a response on Mira's "first entry" which I guess means it's a blog. I was totally delighted, and most especially knowing she's in the 9th grade. WOW -

and I had so many questions and comments for her - tho it did say I could post her privately, I enjoy having a feeling of community here, and who knows, there might be other kids on this forum.

My daughter was 14 years old when she got daring to bring "strange" foods to school and she was VERY VERY shy about it - she'd rather eat by herself than be noticed - but maybe she was lucky, because her friends were intrigued by her foods and she shared when she was asked and everybody LOVED it - but she wasn't into trying to change others. Too shy for that.

Where are your parents in all this???? You cook all your own food????Wow, wish you were my daugher!!!!

Please, do NOT ever worry that you are boring anyone with what you write. Believe me, you have no idea who reads, and ALWAYS, there'll be people who love it and people who are full of criticism - you know, just can't please all the people all the time. So don't even bother. Please yourself, BE yourself, share from your heart and it WILL enter another heart.

And continue your love of cooking and the food - it will attract others, and then you can share your food, and that's even a bigger pleasure, and then you may attract others who also want to share their mb food - and boy, you'll be flying then!!!!!!

Keep up the great work - and soon you won't even know how, that depression will slip into oblivion!!!! You will learn how to balance, and you will learn to love all the food, even seaweeds, just be patient. How did you learn mb? Whom do you go to when you have questions??

All the best to you - you've got a GREAT LIFE to look forward to!!

Love
Klara

Re: Delightful reading

Hi Klara,

I am in the midst of an upgrade of CyberMacro and sadly some functions like the commenting are not working after it. The ability to comment on the blog posts is important and as of this morning, there is a new system in place to allow for that.

So you can now go back to Mira's post and add comments to it.

Re: Delightful reading

Thank u so much!
Well, my mother was looking into ways to lose weight, and exploring some cooking classes. She starting taking a Macrobiotic class, and brought home some materials and phamplets about MB from her class. I starting reading them , took an interest, and explored it on the internet. I then did a research report on it for school and began to chnage my diet. My parents arent Macrobiotic, or on any specialized diet, but are eating much healthier since ive restocked my pantry and fridge. I dont allow them to bring home any junk food or take away, but they still keep yogurt , diet sodas , alcoholic drinks, and chicken around the house. I'd love it if they became Macrobiotic too, but I'm glad I've gotten them to eat a bit healthier (no more ordering pizza or junk food at parties) and that they support me in my diet. Although, sometimes when we go to the movies or to a restaurant i have no control over them buying an ice cream or steak, and just have to let them live their life how tey want to. I dont want to "convert" anyone, i think everyone should eat what makes them happy. Even though it would be nice if happymeant healthy for everyone too. I normally cook my own food, but when Ive got after school commitments or during exams my dad usually doesnt mind putting together a salad or heating up some miso soup for me. I love to cook anyway, it relaxes me and keeps my mind and body active.
Thanks again.
Mira

Re: Delightful reading

Hi again, Mira,

It's soooooooo wonderful that you cook your own food. You mentioned that you are new to mb, I think, and not sure if you realize how important the cook is to how the food turns out - his/her love, intentions, condition, all affect the power of the food.

forgive me, but my memory isn't the best, and I wish I can see all of your writing at once so I can remember what you've already posted (yes, Gary, I know I can find all posts by same person, but still that was too much for me to read at once) - so I was wondering how you manage your food with school. Do you only eat at home, or also take enough food with you when you are out and about??

You sound like quite a character!!!! You "don't allow them to bring home any junk food"???? Who's the mommy here??? Do your parents also eat what you cook? In what way do they support you? Where did you do your research for your report in school? And what did your teacher say???? And the class that your mother found, can you also take it??

Again, you sound like quite a spirited young lady - keep up the good work, you'll do fine!!!

Klara

Re: Delightful reading

I make my own food for school and home. If i go out someplace, like if i have after school commitments i also make and bring food. I never let myself starve, me without 3 meals a day is a terrible, grouchy mess,
For my research report i bought some Macrobiotic books, like Hip chicks guide and a few others, looked at the few materials my mother was given at her class, and mainly relied on the internet. My teacher didnt really think much of it, i dont think she understood it. I talked mainly about the philosophy of mb and she's a bit of a twit so i dont think she even knew what a yin and yang sign looked like till my report. Well, the macrobiotic teacher my mom took the class from offers several classes, but most of them are on school day. I dont have much spare time anyway. I'm rather occupied with school work for this and next year and i think im doing pretty well cooking on my own. Even though it would be nice to take a class, i can wait till i get back to the US to do so. My parents support me in that they do eat what i cook, sometimes help me, and financilly support me for the special organic ingredients i need. Plus, theyve helped me make our home a healthier one in generl by restocking the fridge, etc.
I'm fairly aware of the power of food, it's one of the reasons i choose to continue mb.
thanks for your questions
Mira

Re: Delightful reading - Mira's blogs

stupid technology - oops, sorry - thank you Gary for EVERYTHING, I just guess I expect it all to be 100% - how silly - just like everything else in life, got to work on it. So this time I got smart and copied my response to your latest blog, mira - here it is - and btw, I looked for the other blog I made a resonse to and just could find it - wonder if it evaporated into cyberspace??

I'm also baffled by technological difficulties, but shall try anyway. Again, your enthusiasm is contagious. Now don't get offended or anything, but I'm one of those old fogeys (but sure don't feel a day over 25) and if you were in our group, I bet you'd love it. OK, I might be wrong, so what I highly suggest is you attract your friends who might show some interest. Definitely share your food if anybody says what you eating. I wrote you, no?, how my daughter's friends all loved her food!!!! Not saying she converted anyone, but she didn't feel as isolated. You still crack me up when you write "although i make sure she has a healthy, balanced diet most of the time, " you are one quite mature young lady to be mommying your mommy. I assume you read the comment I wrote on another one of your blog entries - you write so much (and so do I) that I kind of lost track. Again, it would be so much fun to have you as my daughter. Talking about daughters, one of our group just got married, today we're having a meeting to make her mother more welcomed to our community - will be interesting if her daughter joins us. Who are we?? I started a support group about 3 years ago, we met every week and had potlucks. It kind of floundered a few months ago, so I'm tentatively trying to start it again. I have a site that goes with it, macroloversofjerusalem@yahoogroups.com Not as active as I wish, but every now and then we have some good discussions. Keep up the good work. hmmmm, I see below there are characters I'm supposed to copy and I don't remember that last time, so I do wonder if my post (and who remembers what it was??) ever got displayed. I'll go to earlier blog and see if it's there and let you know.

Re: Delightful reading

thank you for the lovely ideas Klara. At the moment no one at all seems to want to eat anything i have, theyre pretty happy with their food and thats ok with me. Sometimes their ignoracne to health annoys me a bit, but i say ppl should eat what makes them happy. Im glad people enjoy your daughters food though, its good for them to learn to get out of habits.

Re: Delightful reading

You say people should eat what makes them happy - I'm not so sure it's a matter of happiness - more connection to food one is used to, and difficult to change habits, especially one so tied up with family, love, being dependent as a child, etc etc - also lots of other associations like birthdays, holidays.

So maybe people are "happy" being in a habit - because it's easy. mb is NOT easy, it asks one to think, to be conscious of what one is doing, not just to do things automatically. Also even changing your taste buds does take time. But as you realize, people don't necessarily want to be told what to do, or that what they are doing is bad for them - they have to be ready for it and want it, or at least curious about it. But you're right again, no use wasting energy trying to convince others. But eating is such a social thing, and it does get difficult, that's why it's so wonderful to find other like minded people. But more strength to you if you can do it on your own!!!

Re: Delightful reading

Hi Gary, Mira and Susan

I've been enjoying all your blogs and have responded there - just waiting for all the kinks to be worked out - so wasn't sure you'd see that there are responses - I think you actually have to go into the blog (the full one) to see the response - it doesn't show just on the brief one. Keep it up, all of you!!!
