Nellie,
You should drink as much liquid as quenches your thirst but not any more!
The eight to ten glasses a day that many doctors, scientists , and nutritionists recommend is based on the meat and dairy centered diet that most people in the affluent countries eat.
Meat and dairy foods are exceedingly warming to the body and because they don't carry with them the necessary moisture to process all the components they contain, much added liquids are needed throughout the day!
Macrobiotic foods usually contain all or most of the moisture necessary to process them and therefore on a macrobiotic diet one can get by with a minimal amount of extra moisture.
Does that make sense to you?
Thank you, very much.
